Looking forward to what comes of this. Enjoyed the Level 2 for a while before passing it along but a great razor for sure. Thanks Shane Blackland Razors

Sabre & L2. 6+years & still the best contemporary GEM bladed razor that I own. Granted there are a couple of new offerings from Wolfman with the WR3-GEM & the latest release from Atelier Durdan with the Vestige. I can’t speak of those two as I’ve not sampled them but, I’m sure they are excellent razors as at least in quality of alloy and craftsmanship, they look fantastically done. Hopefully, I’ll have the pleasure of trying them one day. In the meantime, the Sabre is the King of contemporary GEM razors post 60’s era for me. I don’t have many in my collection and all are of vintage status such as the Contour, Micromatic, Bullit Tip & a Pall Mall modified to accept GEM blades. All shave very well and equally as good as the Sabre but, this razor just does it so well every time without fail. Easy to use, great on the skin and near flawless results 99.999% of the time. Looking forward to the revamp. Should be a winner as well.

Would love it if they made an open comb plate/version of the Sabre too. The GEM Micromatic open comb is my favorite non-AC style razor by a long shot. Incredibly efficient and yet with good technique super smooth and effortless. Also blade life on Persona GEM style blades is pretty great

Ditto, you can get it in OC or SB and you can choose your gap. My favorite is my SB .86 gap in Copper.

Oh great suggestion on that Wolfman! I’ll have to look into it since I didn’t know anyone made a high end GEM style razor with an open comb option. Thanks!

Confused
But it's not forgotten! Love my Sabre, both levels. Looking forward to seeing what the updates will be.

As I wait for the release of the re-vamped Sabre, I decided to give this old friend and GEM workhorse a shave workout. I’ve sung many praises of the Sabre with the L2 plate and I have stated that from the Blackland manufacturing Juggernaut, it is my favorite SE from this house. It has been the Old Faithful of the GEM razor ranks for me and has never given me a bad shave. Blade stability & rigidity is arguably amongst the best that I’ve experienced regardless of blade format. It truly is a wonderfully designed razor that has not only the looks but, the performance to back it up. I’ve always found it to be perfectly efficient and yet still smooth and comfy enough to take on daily shaves and have more that enough to face 3-4 days worth of growth with relentless whisker reducing ability.

It’s not going anywhere and is the best shaving GEM I own. We’ll see if the new version can continue the excellence that the Sabre has established & holds. The new Sabre has some big shoes to fill but, knowing Blackland, I can’t see why they are not up to the task in pushing the shave performance envelope to another level.
