What I’ve experienced, I call “suction” (or “cohesion”). The way I see it, the Blackbird razor head has some flat surfaces that can stick to wet skin. I’ve done some shaving strokes with this suction effect present, and the shave is very close, but can result in some irritation.

For anyone who is experiencing a “drag” or “suction” issue, my advice would be: 1) Try a slightly different angle with the razor head. 2) Take care to apply no pressure against the skin when shaving.

I’ve used both the SB and OC extensively for daily shaves, but never more than 5–6 days per week.

Sure do! I don’t get any irritation at all with the BB. I also have almost no trouble with ingrowns anymore, and most of my beard grows dead flat against the skin.

For those having trouble with drag, I wonder if adding a bit more water would help?

The BB has become my daily driver because it is so easy on the skin while shaving great.

Living on the edge
I got the 'suction' during the first couple of shaves, until I found the right angle.

For me, this was to ride the slanted portion of the guard bar.

Wasn't released yet. But, coming this Saturday 2/23 at 9 am Pacific time. I'm on the hunt for this one. I find brass a bit smoother on my skin than Stainless. Not much but, noticeable.

I just received the email for the launch of the Brass Blackbird...is anyone a little surprised by the pricing? Like many other brass razors, I was expecting it to be less expensive than its stainless steel counterpart. It looks like it starts at $185 machined, just like the ss. I was thinking it would launch in the $125-$135 price range to slot it between the Dart and the ss Blackbirds. I really like brass razors...the Karve is one of my favorites, but at $185, I will stick with stainless steel. I am interested to hear everyone's thoughts...

Totally fair. This is just where the pricing fell. There are a couple reasons for this. The main reason is simply that brass just didn't really wind up being cheaper to machine as I'd hoped. This is due to the design of the Blackbird; it was not designed for streamlined production. I'm pretty sure the price would fall on something like the Dart which was purposefully designed to be cost effective and easy to machine. The second reason is that the stainless Blackbird is under-priced for its production cost. Margins are both are about equal so this is where it had to be priced. Rest assured that I never gouge and margins overall are quite thin. My goal is always to price as fairly as possible while still keeping the lights on.

Thanks for the quick reply! I am a huge fan of Blackland and I own (3) stainless steel Blackbirds (including the Jet, which I love). After following the teasers of the upcoming Brass release, I was just a little surprised by the pricing...thank you for the explanation. I wish you great success...it looks gorgeous, I just think that you will have a little bit of inertia to overcome initially because in most other cases (including the Bronze Timeless), the non-stainless steel offering is priced a bit lower.

Excited to see pics as these are disseminated out in the world...good luck with the launch!

Thanks for the kind words! You'll notice with Timeless that their bronze offering is a completely different design. The price difference between the offerings not due solely to the material change. I don't know the inside of their business, but I'd bet that the bulk of the price difference is design rather than materials. In fact, the only other company I'm aware of that offers readily available brass/copper/bronze versions of their main designs is ATT and their copper razors are priced in line with stainless. So we'll see how the launch goes, but I don't suspect that I'm far off here. Only one way to find out!
