Some news today. The Blackbird will now come standard with an 85mm handle. To make this happen, the 101mm and 70mm handles are being eliminated from the lineup. The new handle will be available for individual purchase for current Blackbird owners.

I expect the new batch of Blackbirds, including open comb base plate and 85mm handle, to be available in early fall.

I've also started a blog, with the first post being an in-depth look into why the handle change is happening and some added info. That's available here: http://www.blacklandrazors.com/blog/

Thanks!

Will the open comb be polished and feature the rounded corners?

Can't wait to see it!

Yes. Same corners as the SB and available in all three finishes.

How well does the Blackbird play with other handles? I don't own a Blackbird, but it is on my short list of considerations. I might love the handle. Who knows? But something that is more and more important to my buying is versatility and the ability to play well with others. The way the handle insets into the head makes me wonder about this. Can anyone comment on whether that is an issue or not? Thanks.

Valid concern. So far I haven't encountered a handle that won't work, but that doesn't mean there isn't one out there. I've seen UFOs, Triads, Hempels, and others work well.

If you do give the Blackbird a shot, you have 30 days to see how it plays with your handles before deciding to keep it or return it.

Saw this elsewhere, and since I would imagine that there may be a few others out there who are interested in the situation with the latest batch of the Blackland Blackbird, I thought I’d post this here. These are Shane’s words from last Saturday:

Quote:Quick update. I'll be sending a full update soon. The short of it is the machinists have been set back because of a few unforeseen scheduling issues on their end. The handles and SB plates are done. The OC plates and top caps have about half of their operations complete so we are really close. My hope(fingers crossed) is that I'll have the parts next week. I'll be driving out the machinists on Tuesday to share some photos with everyone and have a meeting with the machinists.

This delay has been frustrating, but we are changing the way we schedule production and maintain inventory to avoid these frustrations in the future. Early next year we will begin placing much larger orders and this will allow us to keep inventory in stock on a permanent basis. Going forward will be using pre-orders infrequently, if at all, for the Blackbird. We will be using pre-orders for new products, but they will shift to high production very quickly. In 2017 the Blackbird will be kept in stock and available to ship right away. Thank you all.

Blackbird is a great razor !!!
Now I have the three best razors BBS-1, Wolfman and the Blackbird

For almost two weeks I've been shaving with Blackbird. Awesome shave !!!
I really like how this razor works!
Correct angle is fast and intuitive.
If the angle is not correct, then the razor just does not shave.
I also like the interesting sound produced by this razor during shaving.
Well, the razor itself is made amazing!
Thank you again, Shane!

Great photos, and it was nice to read your comments about the razor. I got my solid bar Blackbird out after giving it a rest for a couple of weeks, and once again I’m just amazed at how efficient that razor is.

Hi guys!

Took a break from forums for a while. I'm happy to be back and engage with you all again. We've been focusing heavily on sufficiently scaling supply to meet demand and keep the Blackbird in stock. The machined finish Blackbirds are back and should be in stock permanently going forward. Polished and black oxide are underway and should be in stock in a few weeks. I still expect the polished razors to sell out when they are released, but the turnaround will be a couple weeks rather than months. Our last batch was extremely delayed which caused a lot of frustration. I think we've got a handle on our supply chain now so I'm hopeful we'll be able to avoid that kind of frustration from now on. Keep an eye out this month or next for a new Blackland razor, too. Smile

Cheers!
