Fluffys $.02 on the Blackland Osprey SS razor.
A while ago. An adjustable razor caught my eye. Not the Osprey but the Pearl Flexi. Bought one for myself. Price was right. And have been wanting an alternative to my trusty Fatboy (35 yrs). Would it be equal? Better? Sadly it was not.
Then another new maker popped on the radar. The Oliworks Adjustable. Didn’t purchase one. But through the generosity of a member here. Got to take one for a test drive. I really liked it. But alas there have been “issues” with them being available.
Have no fear the enablers here at DFS. Will always step up and show you lots of shiny things.
This is how I wound up plunking down more than I intended to spend on a DE razor. But the reviews here and elsewhere were very positive. Then it went on sale. Order sent.
It got here to Maryland in 4days. Well packaged.
First off the fit tolerances are very good. It adjusts nicely. And holds the blade very rigid and close to the cutting edge. Finish is nice. The marks from tooling are there. I like and appreciate them for what they are. If they would distract/bother you. I guess the polish option would remedy that. On the handle they actually provide a tactile, serrated grip. As good as knurling. But more subtle. It (handle)reminds me of the flash hider on my M14 I used on my units rifle team.
Installing a blade and adjusting it is straightforward and easy. In use the fact that the guard has no middle support. Allows for easy rinsing of soap and whiskers. The low settings are mild and the high have plenty of blade feel. I easily found a combination that works for me. To achieve easy irritation free shaves. 6 for pass one. And 3 for ATG and buffing.
Every shave these last two weeks has been very nice. No special concentrating on technique or pressure required.
The only negative thing that I can say about it is. That the high contrast black “paint” has already started to come out of the adjustment knob. I am not really too bothered. As I know how difficult getting anything like paint to bond well to stainless is.
Final verdict.
I am very happy with my purchase. Would not try and talk anyone out of getting one. It is the one DE to rule them all in my den.
If you made it this far well done. Thanks for hanging in there.
