Blackland Razors

Good luck with the project. Very innovative baseplate design.

I’ve been wanting a Titanium Adjustable for a long time. So I’m in on this one.

For what’s it worth I’ve very much enjoyed the Blackbird Ti and I’m looking forward to trying the lite.

I’ll definitely be following this project.

Thanks for the kind words! I’m also looking forward to the adjustable in titanium. We haven’t prototyped that yet so I’m eager to try it.

Good point (in the video) about adjustable razors often working best in a certain range. That’s been my experience too, and I’ll add swappable baseplates to that.

I’m very interested in this razor, especially the Ti version, but curious about what the sweet spot/range will be.

Fwiw, the Blackbird OC is my desert island razor. I’ve been using the SS as my daily driver for a long time, and the Ti I just picked up is even better. The only place I really want anything milder most of the time is on my upper lip, after the first pass. It would nice to dial it down to somewhere between the SB and Lite plates for the lip, then go right back to full Blackbird efficiency for the rest.

Still, there are those lazy days ….

Gotta admit, I’m a sucker for craftsmanship with a well-engineered, innovative design. Can’t wait to try it! C

It’s currently configured with 9 settings and the goal  is for these settings to cover as wide a range as possible. Setting 9 is a little crazy and it mowed down a week old beard yesterday in one pass. Setting one is very mild, but functional. We hope that individuals will have a sweet spot they prefer while the razor itself has no true sweet spot. It’s easier said than done, but I find it annoying that most adjustable razors tend to be either mild or aggressive - rarely both. Hopefully we can thread that needle.

I think being both mild and aggressive is inherent to the nature of an adjustable.
I expect that.

For me, as an adjustable user, what matters most is that no matter what setting is chosen,
the razor should present a geometry that is smooth and comfortable to the skin.
Of course, the way things stand, smoothness and comfort tend to decline as one moves
up the the settings of an adjustable. If the BB adjustable breaks new ground in smoothness
and comfort across the entire spectrum, that will be something to celebrate.

I typically get really comfortable shaves in the 2-4 range (sailor, taiga, heritage Gibbs).

Quite a fascinating journey, with your adjustable razor, Shane. I've never seen anyone include their prospect clients in a similar process in designing a razor with such detail. Best of luck and you're still such an innovative thinker when it comes to razors.  Happy
