Saw a video on Facebook this morning of Peter Charkalis explaining the upcoming changes in the Shaving Shop Club. These changes are scheduled to take effect in September.

First off, he explains that he has some health challenges that has required a simplification of the process and Club. Of course, I wish Peter all the best in his healing and recovery.

The big takeaway is that there will no longer be free shipping for members. There will be only one class of membership. Members will receive discounts on all his in-house products, and a smaller discount on 'featured artists'.

I have a feeling there may be some disappointment among members about the shipping. That was the main reason I signed up for the club, that and the availability of exclusive soaps that were very good.

He is going to reimburse those with prepaid memberships.

What struck me most of all was how transparent Peter is in this video. It's rare to see such straight talk, and very refreshing. I may not like the bottom line, but I do appreciate his straightforwardness.

The link to the YouTube version of the video notes that it is unlisted, so I'm not sure if it's appropriate to post it here, but a quick search of Facebook should do the trick.

Good for him. I don't think it would be inappropriate to post a link to the video. I never bought any of his soaps because there have been several different artisans that have made soap for him. I guess I just like to know where the soap is coming from.

What is the "Shaving Shop Club"? A bludgeon for shaving store owners?

Good to hear that he's reimbursing people who prepaid, since like you said the free shipping was probably the main motivating factor for most people that signed up.

My question is, did you as a member get an email or other notification about the upcoming changes, or did you just happen to find the YouTube video you mentioned and hear about them there? Considering that there was some negative feedback when the company/service came out I feel like he'd want to make sure to be very transparent about the change of terms of membership (personal issues of course being a totally separate issue, and best wishes for his recup/recovery!)

Just a follow up: Got an email today from PayPal notifying me that:

Quote:The Shaving Shop sent you $20.00 USD
Note from The Shaving Shop:
Retroactive reimbursement for membership at The Club

I didn't have to ask for this, and it looks like Peter is following through with his plan of making things right with members who had prepaid for the year, and restructuring the way the Club works.
