I have three brushes. Stirling 26mm synth, Shave Revolution 24mm synth, and a cheap, AOS badger that came in a kit years ago. My synthetic brushes outperform the cheap badger in every way. They make a better lather and are more comfortable to use.
Will a good boar or badger brush give me any benefits over the brushes I have? Other than being just "different"? I don't mind paying $150 for a good badger if it will do something better than what I have.
For instance, Do I need a good boar brush to use with hard soaps? Will a badger perform better over a broader range of soaps?
I'm not the kind of guy that will have a bunch of brushes. I'm more the type to find what I like and stick with it. I have every intent on sticking with what I have unless I'm missing out on something that could be "better", in a quantifiable way.
What do y'all think?

No. If you are satisfied with the performance of your brushes, you don't have to buy others. They are just "different". The result is the same. Personally, I prefer boars, I like the feeling.

I agree with Nikos on this point.  Even if you have just one brush, if it does what you want with your various shaving soaps and creams then you need no other.  I have quite a few brushes including badger, boar, horsehair, blends of two different types of hair, and synthetic.  I enjoy them all but, ultimately, it just comes down to the mood I'm in on any given day as to which brush I shall use. I may even choose to purchase a brush for its aesthetics rather than the type of hair.  Lately, I have been into synthetics but still love my boars, horsehairs, and badgers.  Why? Because, as Nikos stated, they are just "different".
