I was just posting to Frank Dragonsbeard  about, what else?  Bay Rum!  His Ethos Bay Rum is due to release soon and I'm counting on it being an epic bay rum. That was the challenge I laid down in the first post of this thread.  Afterwards I was thinking about bay rum (I do that a lot) and bay rum/bay inspired products and one that came to mind was Ryan @ Tallow + Steel  and his Baygere which he released last year which is an excellent blend of bay and fougere.  Well, before I had a chance to come here and post about Baygere I got an email from Tallow+Steel promoting not just their Black Friday sale but the release of (drum roll please) Grog 2!!  Happy2 Happy2 Happy2 Also can't leave out mention of Indian Bay (fantastic) and West Indies (excellent)

Check it out

https://tallowandsteel.com

Now Ryan promotes Grog as a bay rum for people who don't like bay rum but I think it should also please those of us who not just like bay rum but love love love it.  We will see if Grog 2 still pleases the lovers among us.  As far as trying to market bay rum to people who don't like bay rum, I personally think it's a mug's game.  East is east and west is west and never the twain shall meet.  Give them barber shops and fougeres and leave the bay rum for those of us who appreciate it.  I recall some advice in a Book called Talent Is Never Enough by John C. Maxwell - If you want to improve your game, work on improving your strengths.  Don't waste your time working on your weaknesses.  You will always have those and even if you can improve those areas a little, you will have far greater return on your time investment if you focus on improving your strengths.  My Point is, I wouldn't spend a lot of time trying to get people who don't like bay rum to like it.  They may or may not buy one tub/bottle or may even try to get a sample but if target the bay rum lovers and you do it right we'll buy multiple sets of the stuff and we'll rave about it on the forums and we'll tell all of our fellow believers.  Far better return on investment in my opinion.  Sorry Ryan, but when it comes to bay rum I just have to speak from the heart.  Big Grin

Also ordered a set. And why?  Because, as you say,Marko, "Hoping it does please the lovers amongst us."  For me, well, my wife who recently -- sadly, inexplicably -- came out and told me she doesn't like bay rums.  Quelle horreur!  Now, What am I supposed to do with all the splashes I purchased because of this thread?  Sad.

Have you tried Island Estate? Curious, because we've had multiple people say they don't like bay rum but like ours. Also, you won't get stuck with ours.

There’s plenty of places where you can meet potential new wives.

Just kidding. You can try not wearing it around her. You can just use the soaps and close the door while you’re shaving. Or you can just do it in the full confidence that she will come around eventually. Marriage is about compromise. Smile

I also recommend that you keep buying different bay rums until she likes one.

Thought I'd share this with all you Bay Rum affeciatos as I have an interesting observation regarding my Traditional Bay Rum infusion,

So after sleeping on this thought/idea, today I took out of the gallon of the Bay Rum infusion jar a little over of a cup which included the leaves, liquid and spices and put them in another beaker and used a immersion blender and got it as finely mixed as possible.  Then I put the liquid through an ultra fine lab strainer and of course there was still a lot of sediment left in the strainer which I put that back into the gallon jug as there's no sense wasting all that good stuff.  After multiple times through the strainer I got it pretty much as clear as it's going to be and I was thinking to myself,  I have no idea how anyone can get a Bay Rum Aftershave crystal clear without any color unless they are using a Bay Rum Fragrance oil,  some Aroma Chemical blend or maybe someone knows some magic trick that I'm not aware of and if so I'd like to hear about that technique.

I then compared the strained Bay Rum to the Bay Rum that was in the gallon bottle where it's been  infusing for a few months and I have to say I noticed a difference in scent strength immediately as the mixed and strained Bay Rum liquid was stronger.

I am now talking to myself as I just made a whole lot more work for myself with all the straing I have to do but I think it will be worth it in the end.   Big Grin

Hope you all had a very nice Thanksgiving Day!

Not only tried it but Island Estate but it's part of my third part melange, as I've described above....Good stuff, it is.  But so far no combination -- or singular use -- has won over SWMBO.

Tried a bunch!  And I've a bottle for using on the road, but while the idea of jettisoning the wife had an attractiveness, it was a decidedly close call but she won out.
