If you like Sandalwood, they have great one of those too.

I had someone hook me up with a little sample of it and have been hooked. That price has been the deal killer lol

that's kind of how I feel with St. John's bay rum...I'd like to try it, but I'm not spending $55 for aftershave.

Yeah I find it hard to spend that on a soap/splash set. Definitely couldn't for a splash alone.

Ok I pulled out my Ogallala Bay Rum Double Strength this morning and I compared it to the other Bay Rums I have and it’s definitely got the most kick to it and in what I’d describe as a more traditional Bay Rum scent.

So my question is is Royall or St Johns near the same strength level ?

I know it’s not a reason for a purchase but I like the St John packaging.

I can't speak on the scent strength but I also like the st. john's packaging.

Unfortunately, while packaging does convey brand image, the underlying product first needs be 'right' to meet the necessary vs sufficiency standard

Hi Dan

Can you tell me if the St Johns meets the standards for a good Bay Rum and is it similar to any others I might be familiar with?

Perspective is all bay rums are good even when bad, Hell even when cloved (which definitely not to my liking)

While St John and Royall not terrible, and have used it in the past whilst in university and still retain a bottle of the latter, they are not remotely the best (especially at the price). That stated, the St. John palm wrap is simple and fetching.

By far the best bay rum ever encountered is Dominica - by far. if anything going to be your benchmark, this it.

Providence Perfumery Bay Rum pretty damned good too and should be considered. The owner is low key but quite skilled in a classic EU artisanal fashion.
