Declaration Grooming/Chatillon Lux puts out an interesting Bay Rum iteration, B Cubed or Blackberry Blossom Bay Rum.  The top end is blackberry while the Bay Rum plays an accompanying bass note.  I had a great shave with this soap and aftershave this morning:

I haven't tried the DG B cubed, but I do have a jar of the original Chatillon Lux BBB skin salve. It's nice, but not something I'd say someone would like if they A) prefer traditional bay rums and B) don't like sweet bay rums.

I would say that's accurate. Certainly not traditional Bay Rum by any means (not that I am any sort of expert) but still nice. My frame of reference and starting point would be Mike's Bay Rum. This one is growing on me and was very pleasant to use. And almost anything in Milksteak is good. I particularly like this combination of artisans in Chatillon Lux and Declaration Grooming.

Mike's makes a damn fine bay rum, in my opinion. I'm not sure if he has it being made in a splash or not yet (I haven't seen it), but I sure wish he would..

I have tried several Bay Rum splashes from different artisans and each time they have lit me up. I found myself washing off the splash within 10 seconds of application. Thankfully, it's the only scent I've found that causes me any issue.

Today, I tried Sir Henry's Island Estate and I have to say a big THANK YOU to dominicr! Not only is it a pleasing Bay Rum scent but there was never any burn! Just as important to me, the quality of the splash was superb. It's a non-alcohol splash with a thicker consistency (witch hazel based???). That type of splash may not be everyone's cup-o-tea but it has really grown into a favorite for me. My face just seems more protected and hydrated hours after the shave. Thanks again Dom...you guys did a great job on this one! (btw, loved the splash so much that I just put in an order for the Black Velvet AS...one of the best scents in shavedom Smile )

When I was working (more like harassingSmileShawn Maher to make this scent a number of years ago (Blackberry Blossom Bay) a major issue was that Shawn hates traditional bay rum. He worked up the “bay inspired” scent that was the blackberry blossom bay and eventually gave (sold? Licenced?) the scent to DG who released it as B Cubed. To be fair, I like it as a stand alone scent but it’s certainly not a bay rum.

Sorry for your pain but some times you just gotta suffer to smell good.

After reading andrewjs18 and Marko on the MacDuff Prairie Rum Runner and also the reviews of the Thor's hammer, I got some splash of each.  I love the bay rum scents of each -- the Prairie Rum Runner essentially being citrus over bay and brighter and the Thor's hammer being a straightforward bay. Both just make me want to sit down and sniff the bottles.  The Prairie Rum I've now used once and, sadly, it lasted about 5 minutes on me (if that) and I had the same problem with the Thor's.  I'll try the MacDuff again and if I have the same experience, I'll be putting them up for BST together. It would be too bad for me to have to do so but if the scents really don't stay at all, I'll stick to others which do work better for me, though I'm sure someone here may want to try these two.

FWIW, Murphy & McNeil has an Infinitus drop now ongoing which has two Kodiak soaps which are labeled bay rum--Bay Rumm and Bay Rummm-- listed. I have not used either one.

I’m not trying any new bay rum without a trusted recommend.

andrewjs18  have you tried the Ogallala bay rum?  The straight up bay rum is great and even better in double strength. All the other bay rums in their lineup aren’t bay rums but just different scented splashes. There’s for sure some good scents in there they just aren’t bay rum. After the real bay rum I’d say I like their lime and peppercorn and their sage and cedar. Sandalwood is ok and the rest I haven’t really tried. Except for vanilla. It’s the strongest most in your face straight up vanilla scented splash I’ve ever experienced. I found it nauseatingly strong. If you like that kind of thing knock yourself out. Literally.

The bay rum scent is excellent.
