Just received this in the mail today & opened the bottle for a sniff. Smells very sweet in the bottle immediately. I can definitely smell the strawberry first thing, fleetingly, and then it is sort of gets smeared (scent-wise) by something very sharp, almost chemically-like, that I can't ID, and then that is overcome by something that smells like my badger brush did when it first got wet. All of this happens in a matter of seconds; the scent "movement" in the bottle is very impressive, indeed.

I am withholding a final judgment on it until I can actually put it on and see how this all comes together & dries down on my skin. But, that initial sweetness and wet badger funkiness...well, can't say the first impression in the bottle was all that great for me. For this to go from what I just smelled in the bottle to something I could actually wear on a Valentine Day date with my wife, well, that would be mighty impressive.

Also included were a couple of 10ml after shave splash samples labeled "classic splash." Those will have to wait for now.

I messed up big time. I ordered the aftershave on accident and have no idea how I did that but it just arrived and I checked my order which confirms i ordered it. The scent is strawberry to my nose too but there's more to it. I get a sweet and dark scent and I can detect musk too. Not sure what I think yet but without the soap I don't know what to do with it.

Ok, so I put the splash on today. This is going to be one polarizing scent. It is technically impressive, but if you (or more importantly your SO, as this is marketed as a lover's type scent) don't like animal smelling musk scents, I have to think that it is not going to work for you.

This is first and foremost a very dirty musk that is always there. It is somewhat attenuated alternately by whiffs of sweet (which I know is strawberry but can't specifically smell it once out of the bottle) and a faint vanilla-powder (powder note is very light and very, very far in the background). I can barely smell it on myself within minutes of application (3 shakes of the bottle is the amount I used - typical for me with AS), but can smell it on my hands if I place them about 3 inches from my face. So projection is quite close to the skin, I'd say. At 3 inches, it actually smells sort of sophisticated dark perfumey, but when I bring it closer the animal smell just takes over completely and becomes too much for me. If you put this on your face/neck and your SO puts their face there for some close up action, well you better hope they are really turned on by animal-like smells, otherwise they are going to turn away.

Scent perception can be seriously influenced by memory in my experience. For me, unfortunately, when I smell this musk, I am immediately reminded of new wet badger brush smell, an association I just cannot shake.

I am going to keep it for awhile and see if it grows on me, but I definitely will not be wearing it on my Valentine Day date this weekend.

You see a lot of ymmv conclusions loosely thrown around with wet shaving products - this one truly is.

Sounds very polarizing and I am looking forward to thoughts (including mine) when the soaps hit as well.

At the very least this is going to drive a ton of conversation!

It does mellow out on the dry down after about an hour or so. The intense musk loses its edge and it becomes something that smells to me like a 1950s darker scented women's perfume. It's nice smelling at that point, but not in a masculine or cologne-like way, at least to me. At a bout an hour and half to two hours, I can't smell it anymore.

Correction - just caught a light whiff of it about 6 hours after application. Asked someone to smell me up close and they said it was still faintly there. So, it's very light but still perceptible many hours later - very good longevity for an AS.

Did your sniff tester give a yea or nay? I have to say I am even more curious to give this soap a run based on your feedback.

I don't think this sounds like one that will pass the wife test for me though. Will have to be a "weekday" soap most likely.

LegalEagle1 good review - if you've ever read any of Will's Fragrance Blogs on his B&M website you'll get some insight into where he is coming from fragrance-wise.  I'm really looking forward to experiencing this myself.Smile

My wife told me the A/S smelt like tooth decay and asked me if Will mixed it up with the Hallows which she said smelt like chocolate maple syrup.

I however love the scent of it. To me it smells similar to the Awesome Aftershave
