I was lucky enough to get the sample many months ago and the performance was fantastic. I didn't care as much for the scent although my coworker loved it.

Was the tester scent turned into one of the permanent line up?

It was, but we had to track down what was causing the weird "acetone" smell that showed up in the prototype. Turned out that the alcohol being used by the lab was denatured with ketones; harmless for its minimal use in lotions, but severely upsetting when used in high quantity. Once we figured it out (I flew to the lab to split out the formula into its components until I found the problem), it was a pretty easy fix, but it was four months of unnecessary frustration.

For the record, the scent of the beta prototype is now Reserve: Classic. It's much better now that it doesn't smell like nail polish remover on top. Smile

I had the oddest thing happen during my shave today. I was using LGC Glissant and the lather was a bit less dense and dried out on the other side of the face. I stopped my shave after the first pass and threw on some Kyovu to help out my skin. This sometimes happens when I have 5-6 days beard growth. Maybe I didn't load enough but usually I am not shy on time spent on the puck as well as making sure the lather becomes hydrated enough on the face. It was just odd as every time I have used this formula, it was stellar! I need to some really testing with the white and compare the new glissant. It seems like you can hit the sweet spot for hydration sooner on the LGC compared to white label. They both can definitely take the water well which is important to me.

Total Dad Shave: Tabacstag + Reserve Cool
This reminds me so much of my Dad. He was an Aqua Velva man, and BM Reserve Cool is an homage to the classic scent - not the same as today's version. Reserve does not burn at all, and absorbs quickly. I like the flow limiter - it will help heavy handed men like me to make this stuff last. It seems to have a slightly thicker consistency than most aftershaves, but it does not feel oily. This shave was not a rough one - Tabac never fails - so I can not say much about soothing. It did leave my skin soft and comfortable. On first impression, Reserve Cool is a top notch aftershave.

Actually Cool is " Based on a classic Italian barbershop staple", not Aqua Velva.

That's weird because here https://damnfineshave.com/thread-barrist...3#pid87033 Barrister_N_Mann said "Reserve has a viscosity very close to that of water".

Stop posting pics of Barrister's Reserve. It is making it unbearable as I await all 3 to make their way to me.

It feels a little thicker to me - maybe I misjudged the way it spread across my face. It's a tiny difference in any event.
The scent reminds me of AV, ymmv

It's similar. Cool is actually based on Floïd Blue. Each Reserve fragrance is a re-creation of a discontinued or heavily reformulated aftershave or perfume. Smile

You have no idea what its like being up here in the frozen north and having to wait an indeterminate period of time before Barrister's Reserve will be shipped to Canadian vendor(s) Its like watching my brothers and sisters all openning their gifts on Christmas morning but there are no gifts for me - inexplicably delayed...againSad

You know how sometimes when something you want is unavailable for a long time and then by the time its finally available you don't want it anymore? Well, this isn't going to be one of those times, I am so looking forward to Barrister's Reserve and I am loving seeing everyone's comments, pictures and experiences with it.
