But the thinking went that it represented pushing the envelope in ways beyond fragrance, and I would have strongly regretted foregoing it. A dark and unsettling label for a dark and unsettling soap.

Knowing some of the facts behind the image are definitely unsettling and even haunting. There will be no singing of silly tunes when Hallows is out on the counter…

(Itâ€s difficult to even imagine what you rejected in order to settle on this labeling.)  Confused

Allow me to demonstrate. But yes, the history of the image is rather unnerving.

Uh yeah. I'm glad you passed on the mini head idea. That's freaky.

Hi, I'm new here, and having recently purchased a couple of Barrister and Mann soap samples that I loved, I decided to look for more. So I plowed through much of this thread. And now I definitely want more. But I can't seem to find much in the way of samples for the aftershaves. I tried Lavanille and liked it a lot. My soap sample of the Cologne Russe has convinced me to toss a bottle of the aftershave in my cart. But I'd really like to find a way to sample the Baudelaire and Hallows before I lose my chance at getting those. Does anyone sell samples of these? (Maggard Razors only carries Lavanille and Cologne Russe aftershave samples). I'm tempted by the Hallows pre-order, but it would be a lot for me to spring for both soap and aftershave blindly. Not to mention the releases on the calendar coming up this fall and winter. Very excited by those, but hoping there will be a way to sample first.

No, so far as I know, no one sells samples (and I'd very much like to know if I'm mistaken, since I need to have a chat with anyone who is). We don't sample out limited edition soaps because, by the time you received it and decided whether you like it or not, it would probably be gone anyway. However, because of the nature of our LE stuff, anything that you might happen to purchase and dislike can almost certainly be moved on the BST fora pretty quickly. Smile

Will is being modest here......his stuff usually flies off the BST forum when posted!

Certainly not telling you what you should do in your financial position, but rest assured that if you choose to order and decide you don't like the product, someone WILL buy it from you. Oftentimes it's almost at 100% value.

Thanks for the quick reply. Makes sense. Is Baudelaire a limited edition? And could you describe how it differs from Lavanille? Whether it is true or not, I've seen people say they are similar.

As for the Hallows, is the Vetiver prominent, and lasting, in the aftershave? I'm a big fan of vetiver, although I know it varies a lot in the varieties it is available in. Would this one be an essential oil?

It alarms me a bit that all of the listings in your release schedule are so seriously tempting.

Welcome milesd. I too share your alarm Smile D as in Davis?

To the other's point, if you have the up front in budget, you'll have no issue moving any LE scents from Will that you don't care for... My only word of caution is to make absolutely sure you don't care for them. They often sort of insinuate themselves in after a couple of uses and put the Kavorka on you if you don't love them at first.

Good luck with the resistance!

It is indeed a limited edition, and is a cousin to Lavanille. Both are built on my re-creation of the perfume base Mousse de Saxe, but, where Lavanille is dark and rich, Beaudelaire is much lighter, cleaner, and more likely to appeal to the average preference. It's a leathery fougère (fern soap), and smells a bit like if you had dumped a bottle of vintage Brut in a fine leather shop.

The vetiver is pretty prominent in Hallows aftershave, but it's a complicated fragrance, so it might take you a little bit to separate it from the rest of the construct. This one is an essential oil, a specific cultivar that comes from Sri Lanka. That particular vetiver is necessary for the manufacture of Hallows because of its uniquely smoky, earthy character. No other vetiver smells quite like it (and it's technically not true vetiver at all, but a crossbred cultivar) and the oil is possessed of such a distinctive character that the substance itself is actually black.
