I'm by no means a scent head so take this with a grain a salt. I simply know whether I like a scent or not. When I preordered Beaudelaire I was a little nervous because based on the scent description I wasn't sure I'd like it. When I took the first whiff, I was in heaven. I don't really smell anything damp or earthy in it. The first thing that came to my mind was a very high class 16th century perfume worn by the elite. It was amazing.

I highly recommend it and don't believe you'll be disappointed if you're scared of it being too dark.

I have very much been enjoying Adagio and Cologne Russe however.

Can anyone give me some other info about Beaudelaire? The damp, earthy, musky descriptions have me thinking twice.

Your mileage will of course vary, but I don't get the damp earth either. To me it has a mildly sweet smell. I honestly am not sure if I love it, but I do not dislike it. I too love adagio and cologne Russe (I like the AS just a tad better).

If his further helps, this seems like a scent I would use more towards colder damp months. It isn't something that awakens me in the morning like a brighter citrus or menthol soap would. But I have a cold weather rotation that so far consists of Fireside and Stirling Ozark, and now The Beau.

FWIW, if you're on the fence about a scent - buy it anyway. You'll have NO problem selling it on if you don't like it. Don't make the mistake(s) I've made in the past and passing up a B&M soap. I'm actually buying up the ones missing in my collection now (see: http://tinyurl.com/hwnnwcw). Wink

Barrister_N_Mann , two questions regarding Arctique:

- is the menthol level in the splash the same as in the soap?
- does "floral/black pepper base" in the description refer to the "floral" aspect of black pepper (if it makes sense)?

Two answers!

1) No, the menthol concentration in the splash is higher than that of the soap.

2) Yes it does. Arctique is not meant to be spicy, and the florality of the pepper compliments the peppermint and menthol better. Smile

Can confirm - Arctique splash packs a wallop! And considering most highly-mentholated soaps, smells good (not just menthol).

I'm not a fan of mentholated products. However, I ventured to use a sample of the Arctique splash few days ago and I "survived" through the cold (and the nose/throat got cleared up pretty well ;-) ) Now I'm curious to try the soap!

I'm on vacation for a week... The soap/splash combo I chose was... Arctique! Seemed fitting for a lake house/beach vacation. Had an excellent shave yesterday with rather cold lather (literally and figuratively since I didn't pack my scuttle). Oh yeah!
