Scent description:

I began with the core skeleton of all fougères, the classic combination of lavender, oakmoss, bergamot, geranium, and tonka bean. To this were added the ancient, primordial influences of balsam fir, vetiver, cedar, and mushroom, topped off with the richness of smooth musks, sandalwood, leather, and tuberose. Finally, and most distinctly, I blended in the essences of black ashes and smoldering flame to echo the fires of Hell, burning for all time.

The result was an eerily smooth, smoky fougère with a distinctly “ashy” character and the dark cast of some ancient atrocity. Fougère Gothique is my magnum opus, and Iâ€m very proud to bring it to you this Halloween.

There are several limited edition offerings. A brush, bowl, and razor holder...all with a "Fougere Gothique" twist, along with a soap, Aftershave, and parfum. Not EDT...but parfum! I am incredibly excited!

I love the bowl and holder but not available from Maggards. Understandably they might not hold up to international shipping.

Really cool design, well run marketing, am looking forward to getting my hands on it as I put my faith in you and abstained from the sample.

Hope the smoke/ash description doesn't put anyone off as people can oversimplify a complex scent and focus on one aspect be it cloves, aniseed, or anything else polarising. I'm pleased to see something a bit edgy and dark.

So. Tried my sample today and Barrister_N_Mann knocked it out of the park! It's a VERY close contender for my favorite LGC (But in the end I'm a chypre guy first and a oakmoss guy second).

So question; is this soap a completely unique scent profile out of the blue, or was it inspired by something else? Was it composed completely freehand yourself or was a professional perfumer consulted?

Thanks, Will. Can't wait to rock the shirt!

In terms of heritage, it's completely original, though the idea to use ashes as a fragrance note can be attributed to Amouage Myths Man and the original formula for Zoologist Beaver. Smile

That said, its musical inspiration was a classic Sympathy for the Devil. Smile

One of my favorites. Genius. Do you remember the controversy surrounding that song? Almost to the level of Lennon's "more popular than Jesus" remark.

I'm not old enough to remember, so no. Rather points to the controversy today, though. Big Grin

And, GloryUprising, I missed the second part of your question. No, no professional perfumer was consulted. This is entirely my own work, born of my own research and education. I have gotten to the point now where I feel that I am competent enough to begin building fully-fledged fragrances, so expect to see several more in the future. Smile

Possessing the full run of your commercial work (I suspect there may be a few efforts that failed to see the light of day) I have to say it is fascinating to see how your scents have evolved over time. This is not to say that earlier fragrances are in any way inferior (some still rank up there in my top 10), but through the various releases it is very clear how much effort you have put into refining the scent profiles. Fougère Gothic is truly an outstanding expression of your work. It is great to see your vision become reality. Keep it up.

No kidding. Man, I wish I could take back my comments because they were NOT taken as intended. I need to work on my wording.
