Anyone try the B&M soft heart release?  Any thoughts? Sounds like a great upgrade to Excelsior to me.

I passed on it as the scent description was not for me, regarding the Little Chypre.

I passed on it bc of the lanolin, otherwise I'd probably own it amongst many others.

Ruds just reviewed soft heart today and it proves something to me. B&M Excelsior, while being a fine soap appeared to be not much improved over Glissant for whatever reason and I thought, a bit of a misstep given B&M’s reputation. Well, the other base they had in testing before Excelsior was released was this soft heart base and it was what us B&M fans were expecting. Ruds just scored it 100 and that would’ve put B&M ahead of everyone for over a year.

Dear Will, please release soft heart more broadly or replace excelsior with this base. Pretty please for us who are big fans?

Yeah, I also saw his video. It sounds like good stuff.  You should send will at B&M an email message like I did, just to show interest.

I noticed some comments from Will about why they didn't release Excelsior in this softer base. Apparently the concern was there would be backlash from consumers about it being much softer and being used up quicker, so why are they selling us a more expensive soap that doesn't last as long. No opinions here either way (I haven't tried the "regular" Excelsior yet let alone the Soft Heart formula), just passing along the comments I saw elsewhere.

I was wondering if possible the hardness and use of soap had any bearing on Wills original base choice. I can see that being a big factor, makes sense to me.

I believe they reformulated the PP8 (soft heart) base despite glowing reviews from all their testers only to try and get more life out of the soap... I.e less soap per use.

But here’s the thing: why wouldn’t B&M make the best soap base they could at the time and simply add half an ounce or an ounce or something to the same package? I know it’s extra cost for them, but so is the R&D and work to reformulate what was truly great into something not as good and then to also there is a cost to them to Losing ground to other artisans reputationally.

I understand what you're saying. And if this is all correct about Barrister and Man's decisions on this, I would think that it would just be that, his business his decision either way. The beautiful part about it is he could possibly reverse that decision I'm like some decisions we can't really change. I'm sure it would be a difficult thing at this point, but he did come out with some PP8 (Soft Heart) maybe to test the water. It's all kind of interesting and I'm curious to see which way it goes.
These artisan soap makers are really working hard it seems.
