I thought I’d start a thread for those of who own, or are considering owning the Aylsworth Drakkant DE Razor so that we can discuss the razor apart from the Pass Around thread.

I participated in the pass around and was impressed with the Drakkant. I wound up buying one when they became available. The pass around razor was the basic steel finish and I opted to upgrade to the bead blasted finish. I think that was the right move for me. First, the basic finish is pretty industrial and the blasted finish is a nice looking upgrade and secondly, my one criticism of the pass around razor was that it could be a little “draggy”. I didn’t know if it was a function of the finish or the geometry. Well, now that I have the blasted finish I’d say it was a function of the finish because I don’t find the blasted finish razor to drag the same as the pass around basic finish razor. I’m pretty happy about that. It wasn’t a deal breaker (obviously I bought it) but it’s nice to not have that. I’m really happy with the Drakkant and I’ve been using it every shave with a Feather blade for a couple of weeks now. My only suggestion (not really a criticism) is that the stylized A Aylsworth logo engraved into the end of the handle could be engraved a little deeper. It’s very subtle. It’s also pretty cool that they’re numbered. Also, in the first picture in the next post, that’s a Rockwell stand. I don’t recall if Aylsworth offered a stand for sale.

I switched out the Feather blade after 8 or 10 shaves and stuck in a Gillette Nacet.  Its a nice blade and in the Drakkant it gave me a smooth comfortable shave but not as close as the Feather.  I generally can't always tell immediately upon finishing the shave because it almost always feels pretty smooth and close at that point but I can tell when the whiskers are coming back later in the day - with the Feather I usually won't notice that until after 24 hours or so.  Maybe a few hours less because I don't normally get up in the middle of the night to feel if the beards growing back yet.  Big Grin

I'm going to say this at the risk of antagonizing some members but I like the Drakkant better than the Karve Overlander.  Yes, razor preferences are highly subjective but for me the Drakkant is going to take its place next to the Rockwell 6s as a favourite razor.  I'm giving the Overlander to my son.

I would pick it over the Overlander too Mark. No slight to Karve, just what would fit me better between the 2. Glad you got another great tool for yourself !!

It's all your fault Eric! Lol.

I skip these threads on purpose, so I'm not tempted. I also follow your posts. So, I saw you posted and decided I'd check it out...

Better than the Overlander?! OMG. I'm tempted now. Darn.

I think the Drakkant and Overlander are very similar razors, I own both and was waiting for a stainless Overlander to use as my travel razor but since I have the Drakkant I may not need it

Just discovered this new thread. Thanks for the kind words! Stand is in the works along with the 0.99 mm + plate and OC plates. Hoping to release in the fall of this year.

A few ballots are being cast in the "Drakkant vs. Overlander" contest.

Awaiting results in the "Drakkant vs. Yates 921" runoff.

No, no one will be calling any YMMV winners!
