I'm heading out for a work trip in couple days so I'm not sure if I'll have to chance to use it before the trip is over. I'll be back in 2 weeks so I'll use it for couple days after and send it off to TST27 I already let him know and he's fine with it.

Timeclo

Please either use the razor and before your trip and send it on before you leave, or bring it with you and then mail it out after your week is up. I have someone who is expecting the razor after TST27.

First impression on the Drakkant razor.

It's a pretty looking razor. I think the aesthetics on this razor is a huge plus. It feels good on the hand and just looks pretty to hold.

As for the clamping, it seems to be pretty good and it doesn't bend the blade that much. I feel like it holds the blade tightly rather than bending it to make a curve.

For the shave, it went really well. Paired with a fresh Nacet, the razor glided smoothly throughout the entire shave. It felt mild but enough to know that the blade is cutting through the whiskers. It reminded me of Henson medium a bit but in SS form. Of course the angle is different but in terms of how it shaved and felt on the face, it was comparable.

I noticed a slight drag on the skin but did not affect the shave. Just a preference.

Drakkant is set for pick-up tomorrow, off to TST27

I enjoyed the couples shaves with the Drakkant. It seems to be a mild and medium efficient razor, maybe slightly above medium. For a close and comfortable DFS, this razor rocks. For a BBS result, it was a bit more difficult. Overall, a good experience with it.

Thanks for the quick turnaround and feedback!  Sorry you weren't able to use it for longer, but glad you managed to get in at least a couple decent shaves.  Thanks for participating and happy 4th of July!

The Aylsworth Drakkant razor is in my possession. It arrived on Saturday, but things have been hectic here and I haven't had a chance to use it. It is a very nice looking razor! I will have more to report tomorrow night as I shave after a shower once I get home from work in the mornings.

I plan to shave with the Drakkant 2-3 times and send it on Saturday.

As I posted previously, the Aylsworth Drakkant SS DE razor is a really nice looking razor.  The design is original in my eyes.  I realize there can always be similarities found in 3-piece DE razor designs due to, well, 3 pieces clamping down and holding a DE blade. But, the Drakkant has its own style.

The blade feels clamped in place well.  I was a little concerned at first as the base-plate would wiggle/chatter a little with no blade installed.  Now, this is a prototype example that has already been used by multiple shavers, so I would assume that this would not be an issue in production pieces being used by one shaver.  There was no issue with a blade installed.

The channel milled into the top of the top cap does not bother me.  That channel is probably to add a different flair to the razor and it may be functional as part of the balance of the razor.  I did find the razor to be very well balanced.

I normally prefer a shorter handle, but the long handle of the Drakkant did not give me any issues due to how well the whole razor is balanced.  So, while the handle is longer than I prefer, this handle is great!  I enjoy the look of the handle and it has excellent grip.  I never felt like I wasn't in complete control even with abundant slick lather all over the place.

The shave.  This is obviously the most important part.  So:

Razor: Aylsworth Razors Drakkant   Blade: Feather DE (new)

Shaving Soap: Mike's Natural Soaps Orange, Cedarwood, & Black Pepper

Shaving Brush: Wild West Brushworks Purple Duo w/26mm Cashmere synthetic knot

The first shave with this set-up was with 6 days beard growth.  The Drakkant is a mild razor to me with what I perceive to be negative exposure.  While I tend to prefer medium to aggressive razors with positive exposure, the Drakkant with a fresh Feather blade(as suggested by several folks on this passaround) had no problem knocking down the whiskers on the 1st WTG pass.  I then went to ATG above the jawline and XTG on my neck for the 2nd pass.  This is normally where I've learned to stop.  NOT THIS SHAVE THOUGH!!! Rolleyes  Yup, things were going so swimmingly that of course I got cocky and went for a 3rd pass ALL ATG.  It wasn't too bad.  I was close to BBS all over with no irritation.(yet)  I just can't shave that close on my neck.  The whiskers are coarse, hydrophobic, and grow out parallel to the skin. The next day I was greeted by some wonderful ingrown hairs starting to rear their ugly heads.  Anyway, this last part was not due to any fault in the razor.  Yup, I just got cocky.

The 2nd shave was the same set-up right down to the same blade.  This time I was a good boy and settled for my usual 1st pass WTG/XTG, 2nd pass ATG above the jawline/XTG on my neck(very gingerly, which is funny because my whiskers are ginger at least the ones that aren't white.)  Nice BBS above the jawline and DFS on my neck around some entrenched whiskers.

I have dpc007 address already and will be sending the razor on to him next.

Thank you to Aylsworth Razors for sharing this prototype razor with us and to DFS for allowing this passaround to happen.

How are the shaves going. Were you able to send it off last Saturday as planned?

FYI  Drakkant razors in both finishes are back in stock!

This standard daily shaver model won't be back again until the fall when the + plate launches, and even then supplies will be limited in order to make room for the + models during that release.  So if you like a comfortable daily shaver style razor, this is probably the best time to grab the 0.73 mm standard Drakkant until the new year.
