Author of $10,000 eBay auction for Wolfman Razor admits his motive

I haven't read through the thread but to the OP the guy posting the ebay ad just seems like he's got too much time on his hands and also I imagine he is/was a frequent poster on one of the many forums and probably got butt-hurt along the line somewhere and he soured. It's pretty clear.
Look at any hobbyist forum be it a guitar forum, a gun forum, knives, cars, etc, etc. Every forum has people spending crazy amounts of money on their hobby, every forum has members posting the paraphernalia, every forum has heated discussion or has "flavors" of the month hype. Shaving forums and hobbyists are not different than any passion and everybody including the guy who posted the ebay listing has a Vice, a passion and hobby. I've already wasted enough time giving my thoughts on the guys post. He is a troll and I feel trolled now that I think about it

Did anyone play Neopets growing up? All of the banning from the other shave sites reminds me of Neopets. People were getting banned so easily. You couldn't say certain words or do certain things. It was so restrictive that it was a miracle to not be banned. Oh the good ol' days of Neopets.

Apparently, they are sensitive to scalpers who take advantage of their members.

I'm trying to understand what the actual crux of the problem is.

Are people generally upset that they realize too late they could have gotten more for whatever they sold than what they asked?

Or are people more upset because they feel someone else is spending their own money on a product that they want?

I mean seriously...if the original seller gets their asking price, there is no room to complain. You got what you asked.

If you're seriously upset because you think someone else is spending too much for a product...get over it.

If you see an ad here and you think the asking price is too high, let the seller know, but be respectful. And if they don't change their price...get over it.

It really seems to me that it's much ado about nunya. Nunya business how much it was bought for and nunya business how much it sells for. People buy and sell goods. If you want it, buy it. If not...

I agree with you with you wholeheartedly in regard to the prices asked of hard to get items. If you want it bad enough to pay double of retail, have at it. However, and this is pure speculation mind you, maybe some folks are upset with the manner items were purchased. For example, if someone sold an item with the understanding that they were giving the buyer a deal because he wanted it for his personal collection, and then said buyer turns around and makes a huge profit with it, I'd understand that too. Sort of a long winded way of saying that the item was purchased under false pretense. Maybe that's why people are mad?

This, BadDad.  Chris, I agree with your basic stand.  However, if someone does this on a B/S/T, such as DFS has, and then turns around and sells the item on an auction site for a huge markup then I find that morally reprehensible.  Technically, you are right, once sold the buyer can do what he likes with his purchase.  However, I believe that the B/S/T is to encourage our hobby and to be helpful.  That does not mean that a small profit is unreasonable but to take advantage of someone's good nature and who thinks he is helping someone else is what upsets me.  If staggering profits are what this is about (and I do not believe that) then there is no purpose to the B/S/T and all transactions could go off-site to an on-line auction site.  Just my 2¢.

I do understand that. And I agree. It's certainly not as much of a black and white case as I was looking at it...

Some people are driven by profits. Others are driven by a sense of altruism. The old caveat "buyer beware" should perhaps be applied as "seller beware as well.

I mean there are definitely people around that I won't do business with whether it's a purchase, sale, trade, PIF, or passaround. There are some people I simply won't deal with. Like I tell my kid...I can't control what people do, I can only control how I respond to it...
