I have decided, after a lot of deliberation, to get an ATT slant razor next month. So, the question is now: The safety bar or the open comb? For those that have used both, how much difference is there in the aggressiveness between the two? Is one superior to the other and if so, in what way? Also, any input on which handle style is best, would also be welcome. So, what say you?

I didn't feel that much of a difference between the two, but the S2 was more picky about blades. I could put any blade in the S1 so that is the one I went with.

Hi @"Uzi" I don't have the ATT slant but I did get the double open comb in atlas handle recently - I got it with the regular base plate and found it to be more aggressive than I care for so I picked up the mild base plate. Honestly, I can barely tell the difference. I don't know, maybe I just have to work on my technique with that razor. I don't know if the slants are as aggressive as the OCs but thats my 2 cents worth on ATT. Good luck.

I have both the S1 and S2 plates with the Atlas handle. For me, the OC S2 is a bit too much for daily use, though it does a great job. The S1 on the other hand is absolutely wonderful for me. It strikes just the right balance.

They are both great, but overall the S1 was the better choice as a daily driver for me.

I have both the S1 and S2 version with a Kronos handle.  I find that the S1 is an exceptionally smooth razor. However, the S2 is more efficient.  If asked which one  I prefer :  the S1 because it is so smooth.  However, you can't g wrong with either - r both.

Thanks gentlemen. Sounds like the S1 would be the better choice for me.

FWIW, I have 2 ATT S2 razors, one with the baseplate stamped 2015, the other marked 2016. There are significant physical differences between the two razor heads, including blade gap, and they feel very different from one another while shaving: The 2015 feels quite aggressive and less comfortable to me, while the 2016 feels quite mild and comfortable. Both seem to shave equally well (closeness), but the shaving experience is very different.

I purchased a five piece Kronos closed comb set in 2014. And after rotating it with two other razors for about two weeks I have only used the ATT since. It comes with three base plates a H1, R1, and M1. Keep in mind this is not a slant. I my opinion there is a substantial difference between these three base plates. I shave every day so I mostly use the R1. A while back I did not shave for six days and had a heavy beard. I used the H1 with a Perma-Sharp Super blade and the H1 cut my beard like it was butter. I could have never used a cartridge razor for that. If I wear a coat and tie when my wife and I go out in the evening, I do a one pass with the M1 just to clean up. And because I did that late in the day I use the M1 the next morning then go back to the R1 the following day. Just wanted to let you know that I definitely feel a difference between the three different base plates. At first I questioned if I should buy the three base plates (5 piece set) I am glad I did.

Exactly how I feel. I mostly use OC razors for a two day growth type of shave.

Hi I have both the S1 & S2, both stamped 2015. But the top caps are different, one has equal blade exposure the whole length of the head & the other has a more blade exposure at one of the head narrowing down to less blade exposure the other end. I don't know why it's like that. Haven't yet emailed ATT to find out why. I prefer the S1 as it's smooth & efficient & less fussy in what blade you use(with the symmetrical cap). The S2 is more fussy on the blade you use. As to the caps, the uneven cap works best on the S2, I find it makes the S2 a tad more smoother. But on the S1 a bit more aggressive.
