Last shave with the kit.  Didn't disappoint!  I still feel this was the Goldilocks plate even though I normally go with the most aggressive option.  I'll look forward to my brass 1.5 No.7 but will consider additional plates in the future.  Thanks so much to Atelier Durdan and GlazedBoker  for making this happen.  It's on its way to Emg06  and hope he enjoys it as much as I did.  Thanks to everyone else that took part in this generous passaround!

I read the past 6 or so pages of the thread and some great reviews from you guys there.

Not sure if anyone earlier in the thread head shaves, but I ordered the 1.1 and will primarily use it for head shaving. I've really been thinking I may have made a mistake and if it might be too aggressive, and/or if I should have ordered a second baseplate such as the 0.9 or 0.7 with it. Anyone have any opinions. Ideally, I'd probably like to shave every 2-3 days on average (closer to two). I know the 0.9 wasn't included in the pass around, so that probably makes it a bit harder to answer that question. I was also going to ask if production had started on my razor and if not, ask to swap to a different plate, or if it has started, ask to add a second baseplate to go with the 1.1.

By the way, one other reason I quoted your post, I wanted to ask about the MdC soap. I'd been thinking buying one so I thought I'd ask your opinion on it? I have hard water where I live, so I wasn't sure if I should spend the money on it. I've heard it lasts a long time, so if that is correct, that actually makes the value for money pretty good despite the higher initial cost, it seems like it will pay itself off over the long run? Is it a good performing soap?

Ice09, If helpful in any way, I'm a head shaver too, and I highly enjoy my No 7 in titanium with the 0.5 and 0.7 base plates. I primarily use the 0.5 plate for a single days growth, and the 0.7 for 2+ days of growth with no issues whatsoever. I find both plates to be very smooth and efficient. As always in this hobby, YMMV. I hope you like your razor once it reaches you.

It is hard to say what you might like best, Ice09, but I found the No7 to be more aggressive than the specs would say. What razors do you like? I like the Le Maurice 1.2 and the Athena. The No7 didn't work as well for me, but if I bought one, the 0.7mm plate was a bit much for me, so I might have gone with the 0.5mm. Others like much more though.

Good luck and happy shaves to you!

I may be in minority here Ice09 I took two plates for No7 0.9 and 1.1 and I highly prefer 1.1 over 0.9.
For me is 1.1 more smooth as 0.9 and I like more efficiency of 1.1 too.
No7 with 1.1 plate in Titanium is one of my best razor with special character, very pleasnt blade feel and perfect manouvrability. Ideal for every 2nd day shave and 3 passes.

Hi, thanks for the reply. Yes, that does help as I haven't personally come across a head shaver (I still find the opinions of face shavers only just as valuable, though) that's uses the No. 7. Gives me a different perspective closer to what I might experience. Do you normally tend to use more mild razors?

Thanks for your thoughts. Yeah, I had a feeling that the No. 7 might be more aggressive than I was initially thinking when reading the description on the website before I placed the order. I feel like the 1.1 might be too aggressive.

Very interesting as the pass around didn't have the 0.9 so I was very interested to see some thoughts on it. Apart from the 1.1 being more smoother, is the efficiency still close between the two? If I wanted to get a second baseplate, do you think it would be better to get the 0.7 instead so there is a bigger variance between the two?
And with the 1.1, is that too aggressive if you were to use it every day?

The most aggressive razor I have is the Game Changer 1.05 and I find that too aggressive for head shaves so I hardly use it. If I haven't shaved for 3-4 days, I'll bring it out every once in a while. Not sure what the blade exposure is on the 1.05 and how it would compare to the No. 7 1.1. Having said that, I'm sure the No. 7 is much more refined than the RR GC razor.

Sounds good, though, if your No. 7 is one of your favourite razors and you can shave every 2 days with it. Ideally, I want to shave every 2-3 days (2 days if I find a razor that is comfortable enough).

If helpful, I tend to also like the following razors for head shaving: CF Legacy Ti, Wolfman Guerrilla .69 Ti, Wolfman WR2 .95 Ti, Aylsworth APEX-Ti, Carbon Cx .71 or .88 Ti, Rockwell plates 4-6 (although too heavy for me), Karve Bison (although on the mild side), Atelier Durdan Le Maurice 1.0 Ti, Blackbird standard and Lite Ti (not my favourite), and probably more razors I have missed.

Thanks. That seems like you like medium-medium aggressive razors (probably I'd have the same preferences).

I have the Rockwell and use the number 6 plate, but like you, I find that razor too cumbersome and a bit heavy to use. I haven't used a lot of the other razors, though. I was going to by the Karve Bison at one point, but didn't end up ordering it. Do you recommend the Karve, or is it a bit too mild (would you buy it again if you didn't own it)?

I was also going to order the Le Maurice, but I ordered La Faulx ++ along with the No. 7 1.1 in this current order (I thought I should try these two before ordering other Atelier Durdan razors. I thought 3 might be too much without at least trying their razors first. I also just ordered the head for the number 7 and was going to use La Faulx handle with it). What is your opinion on Le Maurice? What is the CF legacy you mentioned? I have to look that one up as I haven't heard of it.

I was told I can still make a change to my No.7 order (pay extra and add another baseplate to the 1.1, or change the 1.1 to a different baseplate) as it hasn't gone into production yet (I think production starts next week, so I should probably decide before the end of the weekend).

The MDC soap is great.  I am using it now more than I have in the past year or two as I forgot how well it lathers and yes, in Florida where I live we have hard water and it never fails to lather superbly.  I think you'll love it as much as I do.

Hello Ice09

I tried most No7 plates including 1.1, 0.9 (sold and purchased 0.7) and 0.7. I will say that the 1.1 is way more aggressive than the 1.05. I had the 1.05 GC and sold that as well. GC was less efficient but more comfortable, meaning less blade feel. Ymmv. I had the 0.9 and that is very similar in blade feel to 1.05 Gc but definitely not as efficient as 0.9 No7.
0.7 gap No 7 was in the GC .84 ballpark mid aggressive so to speak, both shave very different but you get the idea that smoothness moved up exponentially from 0.9 to 0.7. This is what worked for me and you may have different hair type or/and skin type. I have very sensitive skin in my neck region so I can easily get irritation/redness. 0.7 gap was very intuitive and almost familiar to the razors I’m used to. I gravitate to more aggressive razors like Blackbird Ti, Wolfman Wr2 1.55/ Wr1 .86, Carbon++ or + and Vector Faulx++. Hope this post helps you out.

I find the Karve Bison to be very user friendly; smooth, low blade feel, feels safe and intuitive in use. The efficiency is fine for 1-2 days, but it is on the milder side. It is a good autopilot razor, but I generally prefer titanium razors over aluminium ones. The build quality and machining/tolerances is always top notch with Karve.

AD Le Maurice is very smooth and also has low blade feel, but the 1.0 gap has quite good efficiency. In comparison, the No 7 (both .5 and .7 gaps) have more character and feels more unique to me. No 7 has more blade feel/feedback than Le Maurice with makes the latter a bit less fun to use. Both are great razors, but the No 7 is just more special.

CF (Chiseled Face) has a razor called Legacy in titanium. Unfortunately it's sold out currently, but I think it will be produced again at some point. It's a fun and easy razor as well.

My current favourite head shaver is actually the Aylsworth APEX-Ti. That razor is simply amazing imo. Medium-high efficiency, low (but present) blade feel and very safe and intuitive to use. Next batch will drop mid-late February.
