ASYLUM Evolution

I'm surprised that this razor is not getting more love.  I didn't even find a thread with the name in the title that wasn't BST related.

This is the best one-pass razor that I have ever used.  What I mean by that is that my face is the smoothest after one pass than with any other razor I have used, including much, much more aggressive razors.  After one pass, my face is left with very even, very short stubble.  One of these days I am going to quit after one pass and see how that plays.

That highly effective first pass allows for the the second pass to be gentler.  

The real possibility with this razor is not going against the grain at all but still getting very close.



In my opinion, this razor has one of the highest ratios of effectiveness to aggressiveness out there.

I would love to try one, but the price is a bit steep, for me, and a few friends have told me it was rather mild. I have a very coarse beard and require three passes with touch ups, with every razor I have and I have ever tried. Therefore, unless I can trade for one or try one to experiment, I won't be buying one as the razors I have do an excellent job, already.

I'm not seeing the workmanship issues. It is a pretty basic razor and doesn't seem to have much to screw up.

It is no BBS-1 or Wolfman in terms of aesthetic and functional perfection, I'll grant you that. But it works, is symmetric and doesn't seem to have any construction issues that create problems.

Yes, the original price is pretty high considering what it is. But they are becoming available for much lower on the resale market.

It is a unique razor in my opinion. Shaves different from others. Different better for me.

And I am definitely nobody's fanboy. :-)

By the way, about two months ago a friend sent me the Evo to test it for a couple weeks. It's a very good razor.

Another TSN immoderate moderator openly ordered a KNOCK OFF of Paladin's LOTUS and people vomited alternate facts about the originality of Cody's design with tenuous excuse Paladine made 'SIMPSON' designs that have been around for generations and hardly the genius of Mark finding inspiration from random patterns of kangaroo shit. When CONSUMERS fall subject to abuse in any form because vendors, forum entities and no few manufacturers behave like idiots it's time to take up fly tying and consign shaving to a 15 minute morning toilet and no more.

I started a thread about misunderstood products. Douglas doesn't need my support to continue making soaps and lotions. Basically, I don't even support him, because I haven't bought anything from his shop the last 2,5 years. I just said that I really like a soap, despite the fact that it's misunderstood due to some actions of the maker. I won't stop using a soap because others say "it's not good, the maker is not honest" and other stuff. I don't care. CaD314 can confirm that he never asked for my support, if this is your problem.

We all remember Joe's post, full of accusations. We never listened what the other side had to say, TSN mods never got into details respecting their forum members. I don't know more things, but I'm entitled to my opinion. Where did you read in my post that I said he's a bad guy? lol I usually don't make that kind of statements.

What you fail to understand is that the title has nothing to do with Douglas/ Erik and it wasn't meant to be a supportive thread for the maker/ vendor. On the other hand, I remember many of your threads on TSN with BULLGOOSE in the title, saying how much you support this shop and that we all must support him if we don't want to stop business like others and we must never buy from Amazon... Of course, when they banned you after you started calling names, you came here saying that you give Bullgoose a few months/ years( I don't remember) and that's why he offers many products at discount prices from time to time... Man, are you serious? You came here to accuse me of WHAT exactly? That ban must have been very hard for you, since you still read that forum and still accuse the mods for various things. Nice.

Gentlemen, this thread is about a particular razor and why it doesn't get more love, I assume based on its performance.  There is no room here for the politics of shaving as it usually leads to the closure of a thread.  All of the merchants mentioned here, including those not members of DFS, have their individual ways of conducting business.  To engage current and potential customers some use luxury products, some offer inexpensive wares of varying looks and quality, some have a certain gravitas, while others use broad comedy.  As long as these sellers do not knowingly cheat their customers they are entitled to do business as they choose.  We, as customers, are free to take our business wherever we choose and to deny it to those we are uncomfortable with.  End of story.  Let's not have to close another thread.

I purchased the Asylum Evolution  razor when it was just released and unfortunately, the manufacturing quality was not acceptable - the baseplate was machined asymmetrically and did not shave well. I must say that the customer service was absolutely top notch - Phil responded to my message instantaneously and  after seeing a few photos of the baseplate, immediately offered to replace it for free. The new plate arrived quickly and it looked much better. Unfortunately, the shave was still not to my liking - way too mild, inefficient,  and even after a few more shaves I could not figure out the shaving angle. So off it went. The person who got the razor seemed to like it, so to me it was an excellent case of the YMMV. Though before sending it away, I polished the Evo, so it looked really cool



There are two other razors that I tried so far and  that are comparable in mildness to the Evo - Guerrilla and Sabre. The Guerrilla shaved IMHO identicaly to the Evo, but the Sabre, while feeling equally mild, provided me with much more pleasant and efficient shaves. Naturally, the Guerrilla is gone by now and the Sabre is not leaving my den. However, if/when Shane will introduce a more aggressive baseplate for the Sabre, I will buy it without a second thought.
