I understand that the primary purpose for creating forums is to market products but it doesn't have to be solely about that, we can discuss all sorts of other shaving related things as well and even non-shaving topics in the lounge. I like that we can engage directly with artisans about their products both current and planned but many of those people are wet shaving enthusiasts as well and will engage in discussions on various subjects. At the end of the day if a thread doesn't interest me I don't read it. Unless of course it has the makings of an impending dust-up. Those are always fun ![Big Grin Big Grin](https://cdn.damnfineshave.com/images/smilies/biggrin.png)
A couple of the other forums might be mere ad agencies masquerading as wetshaving forums, but IMHO Damn Fine Shave much more than a place to hawk wares. First and foremost, it is a place to learn how to properly shave and the various tools and options available to do so. There is also a strong current of camaraderie that goes along with that. In contrast to other wetshaving forums, Damn Fine Shave is also genuinely welcoming to vendors of all sorts. Other places tolerate their presence, provided they pay often extortionate membership fees, but they generally are not allowed to have full, unfettered and transparent interaction with the membership as a whole. Such interaction does much to improve this place, both for the vendors and the rest of the members. But that was not at all what I was talking about regarding the growing obsession with irrelevant details.
I see more and more whiny threads about how someone could not get a product they wanted at the price they wanted. Welcome to the real world. People then over-analyze the daylights out of the situation, often with wailing and a river of crocodile tears. I was simply pointing out that going down such rabbit holes is often meaningless, and ignores the larger reality and benefits of traditional wetshaving. Its not at all that people should be forbidden from making such posts, but they shouldn't be surprised if some folks call bs on it.
And the dust ups... yeah, sometimes those are pretty funny, albeit in a Pee Wee Herman kind of way.
