I remember when paypal first began. I bought a Castello tobacco pipe from an ebay seller in Italy. I had done biz with him before, and trusted him, but I wouldn't use paypal even though he was an enthusiastic user of it. Mailed a check.

So now I'm a veteran paypal user but suspicious of other venues. For instance, I have an I-Phone but won't do paypal, or any commercial transactions on the phone with any vendor. Strictly my home PC.

I don't put my bank info on the phone for fear of hackers, in spite of the inconvenience of keeping tabs on my account solely at home.

Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean they're not really after me.  Rolleyes

Jimmy! Bank and PayPal all you want on your phone. Security is probably better than PC at this point (or even 5 years ago). The apps make it fairly foolproof and are usually easily to navigate once familiar. I think computers are more susceptible to a greater range of “hacks”.

I bought my first smartphone, an iPhone 4, about this time 10 years ago when I was living in Korea. I’ve Had 0 issues with security in those 10 years.

Thanks for the encouragement, I'm considering. I run Linux OS on my tower PC, and it is, I've heard, relatively safe from hackers. Most go for Windows or Apple.

Living on the edge
You will laugh if I tell you my set up.
I do not and will not use internet banking ever.
Neither do I use my phone for any online transactions.

I set up Apple Pay but then disabled it because I generally use Paypal
for purchases....and Im not the type to use Apple Pay to pay for coffee.

A lot has changed in the 4 years since this has started. I think I’ve had more issues with PayPal than my own bank account even lol. Before last year I never used Apple Pay ever… then I went overseas to see my fiancé and she showed me just how convenient & simple it is. Overseas that type of paying is readily available everywhere. Here not so much but now I use it everywhere that I can if I see they accept it. Not just because I trust the security of it, but because of ease of use. It’s simple. I don’t have to carry cards around as much anymore, as more and more places adapt to the technology and accept it, and more card issues adapt to the technology. It’s just easy. Convenient. And simple. Double click, select card, tap and go, or double tap watch, select card, tap and go.

Apple Pay is great. It’s saved me a couple times when I didn’t have my wallet on me. Cash is already on it’s way out and plastic is too now. It’s an easier and safer solution that no one will question 10 years from now.

You're right there.

Really, the thing that protects you the most is the law that makes credit card issuers liable provided you inform them of any fraudulent charges within a certain time period. I wouldn't ever attach a regular bank account to any app.

To give you perspective, we’re a generation or two into people who regularly do their banking through apps provided by their banks and some have never attached it to a PC.
