...and so we shall return to boring, post haste.

I tried the newly acquired Slim this afternoon, with a new Dorco blade. I did wtg on 3, xtg on 4, and atg on 3. Then I did some cleanup with 5. It shaved pretty well, but same as the Techs, it's just not comfortable and smooth. Maybe I've just been spoiled by the Overlander? Lol.

Nonetheless, back to my old reliable Overlander Wednesday night.

Have a good evening folks!

I really enjoy my vintage razors, but like you, nothing beats my Overlander! I'll use a vintage for a shave or two and then do at least one with the Overlander.

Another great shave with the Dorco Prime/ Karve OL / Stirling Sheep combo. It might be sacrilege, but i'm on the fence as to whether the Sheep beats the Macduffs. I've been so happy with it (and used so much of it) that I decided to order another tub of Sheep. While I was at it, and to justify the shipping, I also grabbed an extra bottle of Unscented glacial Post Shave Balm.

Next purchase will likely be a few bottles of the PAA Star Jelly, since I don't particularly use the Stirling balm as a "post shave" product.

Have a good evening folks!

Well, I did a bit of a knot swap. I'll test them out over the next few days to see if it's an ok fit. Aesthetically, they're better (IMO).

I just wanted a bigger splaying knot in the stabilized wood handle. It's just so wide, that little dsc knot looked silly. So I swapped it with my Trotter Oscuro. I think they both look better.

Speaking of DSC, the brush arrived. As my luck would have it, the brush was a bit subpar. There's a weird black streak down the side of it... and the knot seems to sit crooked I think. I actually went as far as to double check that I didn't order a factory second, but I think only Yaqi does that. Dscosmetic is really a cheapo, bargain basement brand. Still, they make the T4 I'm using in the Trotter now. So, I'm not knocking them totally... I just need realistic expectations. LOL. That said, for 16 bucks shipped, I would have lived with its odd appearance. However, it turns out DS cosmetics g8,000,000 (or whatever number they're up to now) is a little too scratchy for me. Oh well, live and learn.

So the brush went into the storage box and I'm going to live with five 26 mm brushes for now. First world problems. Lol.

Also received a package from Stirling today... so it's a fun filled post. Nothing too exciting though. Just some Sheep soap and a bottle of PSB.

EDIT: My new tub of Sheep soap has a different scent... slightly sweet, almost citrus... and nothing gamey as before. I sent a message off to Rod and Co to see whats going on. I wonder if they adjusted their formula to hide the scent? To be continued...

Great research on the scent. Look forward to his response.

Thanks Tommy, I'll definitely post the follow-up when I get it.

I sent an addendum email this morning with a picture of the two side by side. It's hard to get the lighting right, but you can kind still see a difference. In person, it's much more obvious that they don't look nearly the same color... The old refill is darker by a bit.

I also asked my wife and daughter what they thought of the scent. Both said it's citrus, like a lemon. Additionally they agreed it has no "sheep smell".

I'd be shocked if he said it was exactly the same or something. If they did tweak it to hide the scent, why citrus?!? How about using napalm while you are at it, as irritating citrus can be. Just odd.

I hope to hear something soon. Thanks.[Image: 9dc24cfddeb9483537f1c5bcfe93f170.jpg]

Ok, so I heard back from Rod...

He said they have never and would never change the unscented sheep formula. He opined it was likely the soap needs to cure longer. When the cap is put on, it halts the curing. He suggested I leave the cap off for a few days. That's easy enough to do. In the meantime, I sent him the batch number. He's going to look through the batch notes and check another tub of two from the batch to see if he can't experience what I am seeing / smelling.

I hope it's that simple and easy. I'll know soon enough.

Got a chance to try the Karve Bison this afternoon thanks to a very generous friend MaineYooper . First shave was quite shocking.

After reading the reviews I completely expected a smooth shave, moreso than even the Overlander. However, I found The razor to have quite a blade heavy feel. I also expected the ATG pass to be leaps and bounds smoother. That, too, was not the case. In fact, I grabbed my Overlander to do cleanup.

I'm still reeling from this. Yes, we all have different experiences, but the fact that mine was SO different is shocking.

Ill be trying it for a second shave on Friday, possibly with a Personna blade. We'll see how that works. Regardless, I'll likely be done and know the verdict by this weekend.

Regardless of how it goes, I absolutely appreciate the opportunity to try this out. Have a great evening folks!

Yikes, that sounds horrid, Paul. I am very sorry it went south so fast. I hope the next shave with the Personna blade goes better. I know you won't muscle through it as that way leads to irritation and worse. But I am glad you are giving it a second try. Look at it this way: I may have saved you some money!!  Big Grin

Opinions are like elbows, we all have a couple, and I do go back and forth on the Bison/Overlander comparison. One day they are similar, the next the OL is better. I think the OL wins in the looks department, but that is just me. It will be informative to read HighSpeed Mike's thoughts as he will have also used both, I think.

In any event, I am glad to have lent it to you and hope no lasting damage to your handsome mug has been done!

I'm sorry to hear that Paul, and partly for selfish reasons. I got a notice this morning that mine just shipped and is due on 4/29. Hey Eric MaineYooper, I apologize for not tuning in better, but could you please summarize your reactions to the Bison?
