I think that if the wood is sealed (coated in polyurethane or what have you), and with a layer of silicone in the socket, all will be well. If in doubt and if this is something you don't want to do yourself, I would recommend sending a note to FreddieP. He coated my birch handle and I think did something similar for Dave. Reasonably priced, too!

It definitely has the poly coating. I'm more worried about the long-term. Guess I could always get it refinished, if it looks like it's wearing down. It has a THICK coating in the hole, so it probably won't be an issue for quite some time. Still, logically it strikes me as a valid reason to worry...

Badgers are notorious for holding water and wood isn't the best place to hold it. In my mind, it's like spilling water on a wood floor over and over, and leaving it there for 12 hours each time.

I guess, in the end, I'm not going to be using it daily. So, it should be fine for quite a long time. Thus, I'm likely worrying for no reason. I'm good at that, lol.

Just as a point of clarification... Yes, we've been here several times. I apparently like to 'groundhog day' products, ad nauseum. Same as two years ago, I went through DecemBoar with a level of success. So I thought: Why not try a badger, again.

Hopefully I can 'break the cycle' this year and commit to using (all types of) these brushes, at least on occasion. Time will tell.

Just figured I should voice what everyone is likely thinking... lol.

(For anyone keeping track, that's 4 posts in under 24 hours. Possibly a new record for me and my journal!)

Just had My first shaved with the TNS full moon. Mind you it's only one shave, but my first impression is"Meh".

The knot is a bit stiff, and a little too scritchy. I'll probably give it another couple shaves, but in the end I'm probably hunting for an alternative.

At least I know now.

So, a quick question for everyone out there...

Does anyone have an opinion / preference / suggestion between:

TGN Silvertip Grade A SHD badger knot

And

Shaveforge Silvertip Badger Knot


I believe I had a ShaveForge in the past. Don't remember why I got rid of it... probably the lather eating. That said, I'd like to overcome that, just as I've managed to do with the Boar.

It is very possible they are the same knot, as most stores get them from the same few suppliers. Thus, it could very well be helpful. Appreciate it.

I have had a great and wonderful experience with a 25mm TGN Sivertip Premium badger snice 2018 in a Wolf Whiskers brush I bought at the Maggard's Meet up in that year.  Soft on the face, not too dense as to be a lather hog, and has never lost a hair. I have had no experience with Shaveforce knots.  Just my 2 cents.
