Last night I used the MacDuffs and the shave wasn't all that great, at least compared to what I've been enjoying the past few months (with Zingari).

I'm going to chalk this one up to the lather consistency. Tub loading from a hard cream, like MacDuffs, can be tricky. It's too easy to end up with a joint compound consistency. I'm going to try finessing the load in my palm, with some water. That'll better tell me if I've just become accustomed to harder soaps over the past months of straight Zingari.

When you get the water to soap right, Aspen Parkland makes a great lather for me. But I haven't used it for months (due to the never ending Beeswax!), but I do know that I loaded long for most soaps. Long being 45 seconds. I am relearning times now with distilled water used for the loading and building steps.

And it's not a bad thing having to use Zingari Man as some more!

Yep, just as I thought... The water ratio was off. Tonight's shave was excellent. Now I just have to remember the difference when I switch back to Zingari, down the road.

Thanks to the kindness of one of our own, I now have an aluminum overlander enroute.

In fact, several members came through reaching out to me with possible avenues, and one of our own ended up having an extra to sell. I'm very excited!

I find MacDuff can often be too soft to lather off the tub. I scoop and bowl lather so have more flexibility to get it right. One drawback with scoop and bowl lathering is that if I’ve scooped too much it can take a while to get it all incorporated. Yes I could just leave some unincorporated soap on the bottom of the bowl but then it’s wasteful. Not sure how much more wasteful than rinsing a bunch of unused lather down the drain but…

This is basically where I am. I like hard soap, as I like to load from the soap dish and face lather. The soft soap makes that difficult.

Since I already have a tub of it (well, half a tub of it) I figure this is the best answer. Just a little palm lathering in between to water it down and I can finish up on the face. I could use a bowl for that, too, but there's no point.

McDuff's is great soap, don't get me wrong. I just rather use something in line with my lathering techniques.

To put it in perspective, at least for me:

We spend hundreds of dollars on what we think is the perfect razor. We spend countless hours researching and discussing the best blades, soaps, aftershave, etc. We then buy the expensive stuff. Finally, we spend a long time shaving, enjoying all the aspects of our shave. Oh, and then we come back to share our experiences with others.

IMO, it's definitely not outrageous to include therein enjoying a product that lathers how you prefer.

Again, it's not a deal breaker, but it is how I think of it. Of course, if the shaves turn out better from subsequent use than my other soaps, I may intentionally choose to do it this way going forward. Since we are, of course, looking for that perfect shave experience.

EDIT: After reading my post, it sounds angry (especially "IMO it's definitely not outrageous to..."). Please read this in the happiest context possible. I wasn't angry at all, merely trying to explain my thought process on the most logical fashion. I always appreciate the help and banter with all of you folks.
