One of the two 2022 reviews states it's non tallow (the other just hates it). Also in the customer questions, someone states it's now non tallow.

Amazon isn't a shave supplier. I can't imagine them knowing or caring for the distinction. The listing will probably remain tallow forevermore, regardless of stock.

Not to mention, Pasteur's is cheaper (2.57/oz vs. 3.58/oz). You'll need to grate it down into a container, as it's a shave stick refill... But that usually helps lathering, anyway.

Regardless, I agree. Paul definitely thought ahead and is probably set for life. I'm not sure I'd loose sleep of I run out, but I only plan to use it for Tuesdays, so three sticks will go for years and years. I'm good. Lol.

Thanks!  That’s sad news, but good to know.

The Tabac reformulation is yet another example of short sighted business practices. Anyone remember the debacle of “New Coke”?

The demise of L’Occitane CADE Rich Shaving Cream (the jar version) is another example.   Sad

Ya, I’ve heard from other folks that many Amazon sellers haven’t updated their item descriptions for Tabac. It’s a roll of the dice on what you might get.

The only place I’d consider buying Tabac now is:

The Shave Supply
The Razor Company
Pastures

All 3 are fully aware of the tallow situation and can hook you up with the good stuff!

Just to add on here... Fine Triple Milled Soaps. Not only did they shake up the scents, for better or worse depending on your tastes... They had to leave a beloved triple milled tallow recipe.

It's kind of a crime that they then chose to go with (what is rumored to be) TFS. I admittedly haven't seen a lot of reviews, but the few I've read haven't been good.

On that note, as I grabbed some extra Tabac, I should also hunt down some extra Fine Lavender Pour Homme. Love the scent, performance, etc.

I took mrdoug's advice and went to Pasteur, but I noticed the the product page is titled "Tabac Original Shaving Soap Refill 125g ** New Formula**".  Note the "** New Formula**".  Pasteur does show a tallow ingredients list in one of the pictures, and it is very similar to the tallow list on the packaging of a jar I picked up last summer:

Potassium Stearate, Sodium Stearate, Potassium Tallowate, Aqua, Potassium Cocoate, Sodium Tallowate, Frangrance (Parfum), Sodium Cocoate, Glycerin, Limonene, Linalool, Hydroxycitronellal, Potassium Hydroxide, Tetrasodium EDTA, Tetrasodium Etidronate, Sodium Hydroxide, CI 77891, Isoeugenol, Citronellol, Courmarin, Benzyl Alcohol, Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone, Geraniol, Benzyl Salicylate, Cinnamyl Alcohol, Citral, Eugenol.

I hope the "** New Formula**" does not mean they are selling a vegan version and forgot to remove the ingredients graphic.   I left a note with my order explaining about the picture and that nothing on the product page contradicted it, and asking them to please remove the refill from my order if it was not tallow.

We'll see what happens.

Yikes. I took that to mean it was the new product, non tallow. The one I was referring to is the $8.99 shave stick refill (quoted above).

I had never heard of a reformulation other than the most recent tallow change. Then again, I haven't been interested in Tabac enough to noticed until recently. So, hopefully i'm wrong and it is tallow.

One more time with feeling ...  shave stick refills inbound.
