This tree is nicknamed Methuselah and is a Californian bristlecone pine tree. Its seeds were sown in 2833 BC and gets its name from the 969-year-old Biblical character.

Methuselah is in the 'Forest of Ancients' within the Inyo National Forest. We know its age because in 1957 some samples were taken and dated the tree to around 4,789 years.

I finally got my back yard mowography* pattern established for the 2023 season.
It is a type of roman Maze. You can't easily tell from this panorama photo, but the curved path elements are ellipses, and it is twice as long (left-right) as it is wide.
There's a slightly bare spot to left of centre where I had the bird feeder poles, and the grackles, pheasants, and morning doves had pecked it out. It'll grow out in another week or two.
A bit further up is a brown spot that is a scalped ant hill.
And - far left, a pipe permanently sticking out of the ground, so I had to take a jog around it. I think one of the previous owners had a shed near there and the pipe was a conduit for wiring. I've not found the other end of it.
In the almost-centre is a bird bath with a flat rock and a brick, for the birds to choose how deep they stand in the water.

* "Mowography" - an invented term of my own, for graphics drawn with a lawn mower.
I really need a drone to get a decent undistorted photo of these projects.
