Anyone else preorder iPhone 7

Stayed up until 3am and preordered the iPhone 7plus 128 gig jet black. Delivery expected by the 23rd. This has become somewhat of a tradition for me. The wife gets the iPhone 6s Plus as a hammy down.... She isn't a tech nerd like me . Phone looks great and the camera should be stellar.... Be interesting to pair it with the new wireless ear pods in October when they hit the shelves.

Buy this for the wife..

To be frank, I find the yearly update thing ridiculous

The earplug things will be lost in a blink of an eye and what are you going to do with one?

But more important, you know the water proof thing is NOT covered under warranty? http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/...32231.html So much for being splashproof.

Now that carriers no longer subsidize the cost of these devices, I expect sales to drop substantially. Far to expensive and the old one works just as good as it used to. So what's the point?

I'm not raining on your parade. Rather, just chasing tech for the sake of chasing tech I have found fruitless and fiscally unsustainable.

Iphone 7?! I am still waiting to get my first cell-phone! I might eventually get one of those old flip-up phones, at some point.

By the way, I don't understand why they got rid of the head-phone input. That is one of the best features in audio equipment, in my opinion, as you can use almost any type of head-phone that you like.

The 7 intrigues me. I've read about the new/changed features. I think I'm going to wait just a little while to see what most folks say about it.

It's no secret I'm an Apple "fan boy". I work in the software game, and comparatively , "it just works" is not only true with what they offer, it's damn hard to do.

Yes, a new phone every year is redundant, they don't get "that" much better or different, but that is no different than a lease on a car. Automakers don't reinvent the "wheel" every two or three years either. Yet, a large segment of the population loves to lease cars to get a newer model each year.

I would argue more Americans spend more time on their mobile devices than they do in their cars, watching TV and exercising combined. Maybe that's part of the health care epidemic we have in this country but one can Hardly argue 479 a year to get the latest and greatest mobile device is frivolous compared to the amount of time MOST of us are in them.

 Automakers don't reinvent the "wheel" every two or three years either.  Yet, a large segment of the population loves to lease cars to get a newer model each year.  

What makes you think leasing cars is smart (unless a tax deduction)?

Please don't take this wrong. I got nothing against tech or being an early adopter. I just found that yearly updates have become, IMO, ridiculous. Its a "phone". You make phone calls. Yes, its a computer to. But there is no advantage that I can see here. Its nothing special. And it cost $650 for a new one, not $479.

In this wet shaving world people whine about $20 soaps and have heart attacks over $300 razors that will last their lifetime. This $650 phone is obsolete in 12 months. Look at the early adopters of the watch. The new one is waterproof ... that IS AN IMPROVEMENT. Now what about those that that spent money on the old one?

Pfft out the window. BUT, if that is what you like - go for it.

As to "it just works", I used to believe that. No more. As I sit here and type and the stupid computer thinks its smarter than I am, I get more and more irritated with them.

As to the amount of time spent on them? Huh? What is the average amount of time spent on it? I have no idea. I make phone calls. That's about it or listen to a podcast. Do I need a cell phone? No. Any phone will do. Sometimes I might use Waze. Other than that, the screen is too small. So I don't see it. So, to ME, its a waste of money. But for those addicted to it ... I guess its a good as way as any to spend money.

For ME, I have learned that chasing technology is a good way to get poor because you can never catch it. And that old device? It works just as good today as it did five years ago. I need to see a compelling reason to change, something groundbreaking, and I see nothing here. And I did watch the announcement. Those people would cheer over anything. Meh. "Ohh, a new map". Wow! ROFL.

Give me a device that is NOT slippery, NOT thin so I can't grasp it, that will NOT break when I drop it, and is actually waterproof, and maybe I'll think about it a new device. And 256G of memory? I don't use that much disk space on a desk top. This is all a play to make money .... $$$$$$$$$$.

You certainly aren't in the minority on your feelings. I get a new phone every year like clock work. I pay 36.00 a month for that privilege which, is 444 a year, taxes take it to just under 480 as I stated. So yes, a NEW one does cost me 480.00. When the new one comes I send the old one back, it's like leasing a car or like in this years case I will pay the balance on the phone and give the 6S I use currently to my wife as her phone is 3 years old. She like you, would be happy and content with a 5 year old I phone. Do I have to get the new one, no.... but I always do. 99% of the photos of my kids have been taken with the iPhone... the camera improvements alone to me, are worth the upgrade. Sure we have had professional photos done from time to time, but 99% of our "memories" of them captured on camera have been that of the iPhone... my work email goes to an iPhone.... my kids contact me on an IPhone.... there are times during the week, I do as much work on an iPhone as I do a laptop... so sorry, I don't just make calls with mine once a week to loved ones and check google news....

Making money isn't a bad thing and nobody is being forced to buy the latest device. Back in 1998 I bought a generation 1 iMac and thought it was pretty cool so I bought some shares in Apple. All I can say is, Apple has been very, very good to me

When I compare my iPhone 6S+ to the motorola flip phone that I had back when it was the cutting edge of design its like comparing apples to plywood. Yes they both act as phones but..... The Apple watch is interesting. I have the gen.1 and will likely upgrade. I just put apple pay on my watch. I don't even need to take out my phone just push a button and hold my wrist near the tap and bing its done. It can send/receive calls/emails/texts, it holds your boarding pass, I track all of my workouts and regular daily activities, it records my heart rate every 10 minutes all day every day and stores it all in an app on my phone and if need be, I can have it sent to my doctor. Its surprisingly more useful than I thought it was going to be - my wife bought it for me bless her heart.

I'm going to add the Apple Watch 2 as it's my Christmas want this year . I swim a lot so the first one wouldn't have worked for me... this one I'm eager for...
