That Bald Guy with the Big Beard

Ok, so...long story short...several weeks ago, someone had offered to mail me a couple of single edge PTFE coated blades to try. I accepted and provided my address, expecting an envelope with a couple of single edge blades inside. That envelope arrived last night...

Said envelope did, in fact, contain 2 PTFE coated stainless steel single edge blades. That envelope also contained a new cake of Mike's Natural Cedarwood & Pine soap, an Omega S Brush, and this GEM G Bar, which I had never heard of before lunchtime today, which is why I waited to post the picture.

Anyhow...does anybody here have any experience with this thing? I tried the GEM Featherweight, and did not like it, though admittedly I used carbon blades, and I don't even like carbon blades in a DE, so there's that...

Any input you fine gentlemen might have on how this razor can be expected to perform would be greatly appreciated!

Wow! I'm sure that was a nice surprise! The G bar is a fine razor, mild but efficient. Paired with the GEM PTFE blade and your in for a treat! If you have never an SE like the GEM or Ever-Ready the start by placing the head flat against you face and lightly angle it off. It's pretty intuitive and you should get the hang of pretty quick. Just start with Short, even strokes starting out. Let us know what you think!

This is the GEM Heavy Flat Top, more commonly known as the G-bar. Supposedly it and the Feather Weight share the same heads and only differ in handles. However, in my experience they do shave differently.

Good for you! I have the exact same razor, blades, and brush - and love them all. One bit of advice: the G-bar has similar ergonomics to a cartridge razor. When I first got mine, I reverted to old habits and pressed too hard against my face causing irritation. Go light and your cool razor will give you a great shave.p

BadDad, I hope this razor works out for you.  I know the Featherweight did not but I love mine.  Sometimes a razor just needs to be dialed in to that sweet spot but, in all honesty, sometimes said razor simply won't work for an individual.  I am hoping that in your case you will be able to find a way that simply works for you with this razor.  All the best on this venture. Happy2
