It's way out of what I would ever pay for a SE razor. My vintage razors work fine for far less $ spent.
Lots of folks? Do they eat at restaurants?

Even the phobic can get NOS Gem and ER for less than $30-50.

Nothing 10 minutes in a Barbacide bath won't cure...

The same reason people don't just, "Buy a real DE," and get a wolfman I guess. I just shelled out $200 for the ATT G1 so guilty as charged. Smile

For those who worry about such things 5 minute contact with Comet Disinfectant and Bathroom Cleaner if you don't want to have to buy Barbicide.

Back to the game.

I admit I am a GEM and a single edge fanatic. I have 11 different GEMs and each shaves as good as the others.
I paid less for all of them together than that new boy on the block, Rocnel, costs.
Granted they are only brass and chrome but they still do the job without fuss.
That poor, misunderstood, maligned, GEM Micromatic Open Comb stands proudly on par with its brothers like any true GEM.

I have two new razors that I will report on when I get a chance. Both are, in this amateur's opinion, extraordinary.
Since I have been absent they may no longer be news but I am sure to hear about that.

Cheers chaps and chapettes.

I think a lot of us are, Mickey.

As for your take on the Micromatic Open Comb, all I can say is: Confused

Yes, I've run into quite a few folks online who express that concern. Over the years it's been lots of them.

Merelymoe, you're preaching to the choir with me. You need to reach the folks I mention above.

I soak any old razors in alcohol before I do any work on them.
I never use old blades. Even new ones.

Am I leaving myself susceptible to anything?
