I've always been interested, but I haven't made the time or set aside the budget to really dig into it. I know I'm mostly Cherokee, Irish, and German. It's the history that interests me more than the heritage. I want to know more about who my ancestors were, not just where they came from.

Try familysearch.org it's free with tons of cool info. I found not only names but someone has also added things like journal entries on some of my ancestors.

Oh, and I found ancestors on my dads side are mostly from England and Ireland.  My mom side is Scots Clan Hunter and Danes.  All in all I'm Heinz 57, a mix of a lot.  What was really cool though was the pics and other documents.

100% Portuguese; grew up in our very small village in northern Portugal for five years before coming to Canada (born in Paris); I believe our ancestors go back a few hundred years in that same village; might have Scandinavian & Moor ancestry, somewhere.

That's awesome. I think Portuguese is the prettiest language to hear spoken. I know a few guys from Brazil and I love listening to them talk to each other.
