I think that can be somewhat true, but also can see where Blackland Razors is coming from too.  In my current job role, I'm massively underpaid per the going market rates so my solution is to look at other companies who value my talent more.  in fact, I have an interview in a few hours where I'll be getting paid 2x what I'm making now...

That economic fact is only one part of the equation. In my neck of the woods the conversation is not as focused on wage/price spiral but a price/price spiral but that's aimed more a mid/large cap companies. Thanks bschool  and outdated economic philosophies.

I’m not sure I fully understand the question. Are you asking what income range our customers fall into?

If so, we don’t have great data on that. There are some ways to infer income like zip code or using Facebooks income estimates, but we don’t really try to solve that. I can say that qualitatively we have a huge range of customers from the rich all the way to people living paycheck to paycheck. Most customers are just average middle class from what we can infer.

Fully agree, and if he was making 500K a year doing it, he would probably find time to do it.

We continue to experience double digit growth. As most of you may know, we don't get a ton of hobby chatter. Our main focus is the "regular Joe" customer. We continue to sell our staples over and over without continuously trying to recycle the same group of hobbyists with limited editions and seasonal releases. Go West Young Man!
Growth is outside the hobbyists.
To answer the analysis question, I see some cutting back on expenditures of the number of products purchased by hobbyists with little change in our core customers just replenishing as they use up products. They don't for the most part have a multitude of brushes or razors.

I totally agree with the statement in bold and was trying to explain this to somebody on a FB fragrance group.  If you think people in this space can be oddballs go hang out in some fragrance forums.  Some of the elitism is similar to this hobby, but generally people in the wet shaving community are A LOT nicer.  Some like to complain about designer fragrances and how, "Boring they are," compared to some of their higher end niche fragrances.  They don't get that companies aren't after the complete weirdo with 100+ bottles of fragrance (or 100+ shaving soaps for that matter).  They are after that ONE average joe and get him to buy that bottle of Sauvage over and over again.  It blows my mind when I read things like, "Well, I dunno if Dior would just listen to US."  

If they listened to you everything would smell like fecal, barnyard oud and Dior would be bankrupt.

I have to tell you, one of the things that weighs on me is the feeling/pressure that I have to buy this guy’s next / all releases or he might not be in business tomorrow. First, that’s why I have too damn much product and second, that’s too much pressure for me. I’m in this space to enhance my shaving experience and my life generally. I don’t need more stress. Obviously this is on me because nobody is holding a gun to my head but I do feel the pressure. All I can say is thank goodness more artisans aren’t making more awesome bay rum because then things would just be freaking insane.

Marko to me it’s simple.  Let all the stress go, buy what makes sense and it’s up to the artisans to make something valuable enough to you to spend your money.  This is not a charity.  I love a few artisans, but I don’t buy scents that I won’t use.  It’s simple we can’t spend just to spend.  Stay well!
