All things Grooming Dept

Creams are a Work-In-Progress. But I'll release a few versioned releases this year à la Saponificio Varesino style of numbered releases. Janus Tallow Cream will be the first of the bunch, and there will be a Lusso Cream too. I have so many things in the pipelines, I don't know what to prioritize yet.

Mallard Almond Vanilla is really nice! Scent notes: bergamot, lavender, heliotrope, white flowers, almond, amber, vanilla, and sandalwood.

I'll be happy to buy a "beta" version since I sometimes don't really feel like lathering a soap puck. Looking forward to it! I'm sure even your first version of it would be great!

I have already made several Janus Tallow cream versions. Also, the formula already has a proven track record as a soap. Part of the reason for the beta iterations is to experiment with different containers a few textures.

Fantastic shave with a Mallard proto that Mohammad was kind enough to send me. While my shave was a bit hurried I was still able to get a fantastic lather and initially I was able to note great residual slickness. I will use it again this weekend in a more deliberate fashion to really get a feel for it but it was a great initial impression. Face felt great all day. Thanks Mohammad.

Have had a couple side by side shaves with the last production version of Mallard and Beta 5,16 lathered with identical distilled water and same manufacturer brushes with identical knots. 

The Beta 5,16 loaded as easily as the last production version, just a bit thicker and beautifully so.  Applying to the face, found the beta to take far more water than the last production version; conducting a palm against palm test, noticed it undoubtedly more cushioned - a promising start given my shaving preference possessing ultra sensitive skin.  By the end of lathering, it was clearly apparent not only did the Beta possess more cushion but also more volume.  The shave proved the early optimism was well founded and revealed some additional initial slickness but abundantly more residual slickness.  A three pass shave resulted in a much less irritated Beta side than production side as well as a cleaner rinse with less residual soap and soap film.  Post shave was a marked improvement over production Mallard.

Please do not take this as insinuating Grooming Dept is an inferiour soap as all shaving results in irritation but with Grooming Dept being at the top of the soap pantheon delivering minimal irritation - this to state that Beta 5,16 is an improvement on what I already considered a top of the market soap performer.  It really is neck and neck between Nai and Mallard Beta 5,16 as to which is the star of the Grooming Dept line.  They are different but equally great in my estimation and would be quite happy with either - perhaps I would give an edge to Nai but only for it being a vegan formula and hence cruelty free.  Great job Mo!

I have to make some necessary premises:
• I have not tried all the GD bases
• I used samples thanks to friends
• the only soap I bought is Aion, in Formula Nai V1
• I suffer from a bad chronic dermatitis
• as a pharmacist I have been studying the formulations for many years
• I have been passionate about wetshaving for over three decades

Having said that, I believe there are three categories of soaps.
Products from technologies of the past, like most on the market, with few functional and medium-low prices, which point to simple mechanical capabilities.
Products from modern technologies, some specialized (Saponificio Varesino and few others), with excellent functional and medium-high prices, which aim to add a conditioning action on the epidermis.
Products of future technologies, such as Grooming Dept Formula Nai, with special features and high prices, which aim to improve conditioning in the deep layer of the dermis.

This last category has a slow action.
Requires use for a few consecutive days.
But the result is absolutely on another level.
The more visible the more the skin is subject to inflammation.
In my case, Formula Nai completely eliminates the symptoms of dermatitis.
It does this in about a couple of days if applied in the early stages.
Even without the use of many accessories in pre- and postshave.
The other GD bases that I know fail to do this.
Because they belong to the second category.
That is enough for me to keep the symptoms under control until the inflammation recurs more forcefully.

Very interesting analysis! I wonder how the new formula of Nai would work in you. It is even better than V1 and it’s a Vegan formulation. Also, have you tried the Kairos base or the Donkey Milk combo base?

I'm sure to take It in the future, when things will be back to normality.

It is even better than V1 and it’s a Vegan formulation.

Kairos, yes; Donkey, no.
