This winter has really taken a toll on my skin. I have top tier soaps but still struggling a bit with irritations.
I haven't tried GD in awhile because I really didn't like the last few scents I got. I saw they have unscented pre-shave, soap, and aftershave balm available. 2 questions:
1) I can only afford 2 right now... What two would make the biggest impact?
2) I know the clarus soap is unscented but what does it smell like? Nothing? I've had in scent soaps before that smelled like the tallow fat and I hated it.

Aion Skincare (formerly Grooming Dept) does have some unique scents. For me, the scent plays a big part in my shaving enjoyment. I do not purchase unscented soaps, but I have tried some unscented samples as part of product development testing. Without a fragrance to cover up the scent of the soap ingredients, you will detect some fatty odor. I do not find the scent off-putting, but I much prefer scented.
One thing you could do is purchase Clarus soap and then add a few drops of your favorite cologne or aftershave to cover up any fatty odors. You can add a few drops to the soap container and let it sit for a couple of weeks to absorb the scent, or you can add a drop or two right before you develop your lather.
Personally, I love the Aion Skincare Hydrating Gel with Haluronic acid. It is lightly scented.
The aftershaves are alcohol free. There is a Clarus (unscented) aftershave if you are afraid of the scents.
