Nah.
Those are just regular three-piece razors with spare parts.
That whut me think, but it's not the hill I choose to die on.

Rex, Taiga, Rocnel, Muramasa, Pearl Flexi, Denali, Futur and Rockwell T2 (and I'm sure others) all represent what modern design and materials can do for the very well established and tested vintage world of adjustables as far as improving form and function, although truth be told, almost all the "new" represents mere tweaking, not replacing, the "old."

I remember a post 5 years ago where it was suggested to call the Rockwell, Karve, and such (like the coming Blackland Era), Adaptable razors. I liked that label, but I don't think it caught on.

I'm a set it and leave it guy that shaves everyday so I'm not big on adjustables even though I've owned and tried many. Love my Gibbs but again don't really vary the setting.

Same here. I have some adjustable (Fatboy, Slim, Progress... 6S), but pretty much never change them.

I'm kinda a believer in "less moving parts is better" with most mechanical things in life.

I love adjustables and I actually work the dial. Smile

I have kept 6 modern (all Rocnel Sailors) and 6 vintage Gillette adjustables for use. 3 Toggles, a Fatboy, a Slim 84, and SA109. My favorites are my 1960 F4 Chrome Toggle and a 2021 Rocnel Sailor Master Collection.

I kept an NOS Merkur Vision for a couple of years, never using it. I finally PIF'd it this week.

I have 5 or 6 Gillettes considered "surplus" that need to go. They need PIF'n too.

I wondered what Gillette's intention was for adjustables. Were you supposed to get one, find your ideal setting and leave it, or to be changing it for different situations?
The fine print in this ad suggests changing it from shave to shave, or even mid-shave.

I have this theory that when they introduced the Red-tip, Regular, and Blue-tip Super-Speed models they were actually doing a sort of survey to determine what range of blade exposures to implement in the then-future adjustable.

I have a Rex, Taiga Ti and a 2021 Sailor. I love that I can go days without shaving and still dial them up to knock down the bulk of the extra days on the first pass, but then dial them down for later passes. The Sailor in particular I used for most of the summer and found it difficult to put away.

Contrary to what I had imagined, I found the extra mass of the Sailor more of an asset than a detriment. The added inertia helped it glide through tough spots.

I brought my Rex with me on vacation so that one razor worked for all situations. If I could keep only one of my many razors it would be an adjustable.

I think they were designed to be used at various settings from shave to shave or mid-shave, as you pointed out.  The SA 109 instructions also suggests skin condition may appreciate a lower setting.
