Hello to all!

This thread will be about Adjustable Safety Razors. Which is your favorite? How many do you have? Why do you like them? Do you dislike adjustable safety razors? Maybe we can make a list of every adjustable safety razor that ever existed? Let’s have fun!

I've owned roughly 20 different adjustable models. I currently own around 15. Generally speaking I don't much care for them, I'm fine with adjusting my technique to suit an optimized razor rather then adjusting a razor compromised to incorporate adjustability.

Current favorite is my early 50s Apollo Mikron.

Living on the edge
I love the idea of an adjustable razor but never really liked the execution.

Until I chanced upon the Taiga adjustable...now I can't keep my hands off it.

There's another one I'd like to try: the Rocnel 2021 Master Collection

Does the Rockwell 6s and the other (Karve) multi-baseplate "adjustable" razors count?

Welcome! Favorite modern is the rocnel sailor. Favorite vintage is my toggle. Not sure the toggle is the best shaving adjustable vintage but I do have a bias for razors with a “cool” factor.

I have been wanting to try the tatara muramasa but my funds went to the 2021 sailor MC.

What kinds of razors catch you eye Therookieshaver ?

Favorites:
Rex Ambassador - excellent quality build; nice shaver
Gillette Slim - in my birth year; how could I not get one
Merkur Progress - my first adjustable, doesn't see much use after I acquired a Rex

As a head shaver, I appreciate adjusting on the fly. Milder setting on the face, more aggressive on the head, milder on the top of the dome. However, the Henson medium provides the best most comfortable shave on my dome, so it is my go-to. I got a Leaf "for my wife" thinking she would not like it. Well, she loves it. I have used it for a head shave, and boy oh boy the Leaf is absolutely the best razor for shaving the cue ball.

So the adjustables do not get much game time, although I appreciate and enjoy using them.

Thank you all for your response’s so far. As for me, my favorite modern adjustable is the Rex Ambassador, and my  favorite vintage is the Gibbs N.17.

Geezer

I have two, maybe three adjustables.
  • Gillette Slim Adjustable - the first razor I bought when I had gotten back into using DE razors.
  • QShave Futur clone - It was cheap, I was curious.
  • I'm sure that I have a Gillette Super Adjustable 109 in the basement, somewhere, but I've not laid eyes on it since the '90s.

I do like the Apollo-era appearance of the Slim, and it's a pretty good razor, but I've not found any single setting that I like as much as some of my non-adjustables.

You can get a nice close shave with the QShave, but it takes some getting used to. I would not recommend it as a first DE for a beginner.
It's really loud, too.

BTW - here's a nice archive of Gillette Adjustables: https://gilletteadjustable.com
