I forgot about this review of Tabac on Sharpologist. I read it after finding out Tabac was some sort of icon or as one commenter mentioned "the gold standard" Yeah, not buying into it being the gold standard But there is some kind of cult following for Tabac with people using what looks like commercial photos of it as their avatar. Sharpologist gave it a 6 out of 10 and would not recommend buying. If Tabac is the gold standard, then I believe the bar being too low but, of course, others are free to think of it as gold.

About a year ago I quit listening to self proclaimed Internet/YouTube gurus regarding any type of reviews, period. I watch them as long as they don't go on political/social rants, have seen some of those as of late, and take their assessment as their own personal opinion, nothing more. They are entertaining, but that's it for me.
My own personal review is what matters to me, if I don't like it I PIF, otherwise I keep it and move on.

I've been wet shavings for about a year now I have not encountered a soap I couldn't lather for me I don't think there is such a thing although I haven't tried Mitchell's wool fat I have some vintage soaps that might be tough to lather but I don't have a problem with it the only thing for me that I found negative are some of the soaps ive tried the scent is lacking...Arko,wilkinson sword, erasmic, and pig vomit.

Have you tried Tabac yourself?

See https://damnfineshave.com/thread-tabac-f...perfumania. It was being given away.
Why would I write: "If Tabac is the gold standard, then I believe the bar being too low" if I hadn't tried it? I previously wrote that I don't comment on things I don't try. I've never driven a Ferrari so I'm not going to comment on them. I don't use straight edge razors so I don't comment on them.
In fact, I pulled it out yesterday, after remembering that article, and used it yesterday to refresh my memory where I had stuck it in a dark hole to forget about. I concur with Sharpologist's assessment. I found the scent offensive and strong, a bad combination. After shave feel was about non-existence which todays puts it out of the running among the best. It lathers easily and was somewhat hydrating. Technical performance was average compared to others I've tried. There was nothing special here and due to the scent and average performance, it ranked poorly for me. Since it cost a few pennies to buy, I can't complain about its cost but its not my replacement list.

Why are you presuming anything? I didn't say that. I answered Uzi's question. I said I concur with Sharpologist' assessment. It also doesn't mean its any good either compared to its competition.
