We spent the weekend at camp.

On Saturday we awoke to 40°C temperatures  and a cold wet fog.
A good day for a hearty breakfast. Pancakes and sausage cooked on a cast iron griddle.

After breakfast I did some letter writing. This particular letter is for our very own Freddy.
Just for clarification. The tea I am enjoying is in an Old Spice coffee mug. This is not a shaving soap mug. Just so you know. Smile

I like to use a wax seal. And also draw on the envelopes.

The fog burnt off as I was letter writing. ML went out to take some pics.
This is a dew soaked spider web. By time I made it outdoors the dew had evaporated and the spider web was all but invisible.

The cool temps made us think of colorful foliage. We decided on a road trip. One with no destination in mind - just the general direction of North looking for fall color. We did not find any. But we had a marvelous day.

This is from VT looking east across the Connecticut River into NH.

Behind us were some cliffs.

We stopped in Sheffield, VT to mail the above letters. We could hear rushing water behind the post office. There was a tiny waterfalls.

The next town we stopped in was Glover. To call it a town is being generous. Blink and you miss it. But it did have an all purpose general store.
We ordered sandwiches for lunch and sat on the porch watching the world go by.

Part of the general store serves as the town post office. You had to dodge this fella to get to the post office window.

It was a very enjoyable day.

Good eye. Scientist by day - all temps are °C. But Saturday morning was 40°F. Very chilly with the accompanying wet fog.

Looks great Phil. The crowds are gearing up.

This is from my morning run just outside of Woodstock up in Pomfret, VT looking towards Killington 20 miles west. Some slight color starting in the morning light. Great time of year with foliage beginning and getting the skis waxed and sharpened.

Great picture.

We do not get the crowds in the Northeast Kingdom that you get down Woodstock way.
I am pretty sure that every other patron that came into the country store in Glover knew we were not locals. Just a slight pause as they looked at us as they affirmed we were from "away". Treated friendly and well by one and all but the store is not a tourist trap Smile

We live in SE NH. Seems to me NH gets a lot more leafpeepers than VT. But that is anecdotal.

I know earlier this spring I tried to visit Woodstock. Took 20 minutes just to get through town. It was crowded.

Gotta love that General Store/post office and the Moose! The last place I was in that had a stuffed moose was LL Cote in NH just through Grafton Notch*. Their moose is a white moose. Nice little town, Errol NH; or it was.

I've never been to Woodstock, but I have been to Ossipee and disliked it for the same reason. Just too touristy and too much traffic. If I never go back there it will be far too soon. This ex suburbanite (20 miles outside NYC) definitely no longer likes crowds and population centers and I almost never go back to where I grew up. That place is there in name alone but is no longer "home" to me.

*Maybe Cabelas has one and I've been there since LL Cote. But they don't a have a white one. I'll wager that.
