A razor made for ladies but...

This 1966 blue Lady Gillette razor (it also came in pink and champagne) is one that has remained in my rotation since I acquired it from eBay several years ago.  Frankly, so many things in the shaving world that are marketed to either one sex or the other, I find completely gender neutral and this razor is a case in point.  It gives  me a fantastic shave but what makes it special is the extra long handle.  Unlike similar Gillette razors of the time that were marketed to men, but with shorter handles, I appreciate the longer handle as I find it easier to control the razor when I'm shaving.  Even the look of the razor I find rather unisex.  About the only one of these that might be considered female specific is the one in pink. However, with many men wearing pastel colored clothing, both casual and dressy, I'm not even sure that that holds true anymore.  

Because it was in need of a good scrubbing, which I took care of when I received it, I purchased mine for well under $20.00 but, unfortunately (at least based on current eBay prices) that no longer seems to be the case.  However, if you're looking for a razor that is not overly aggressive, has a nice long handle, and can be found for a reasonable price then you might want to give one of these a try.

Brian, I admit that this razor may not be for everyone, which is why I stressed that it is not overly aggressive.  However, I do think quite a few gents will get a surprisingly good shave from it as long as they don't assume that it is a "woman's razor".

I have one in the drawer for my wife. she hasn't made the step from cartridge razors for safety razors yet though. she does use a brush and my creams!

They are great razors. I was able to pick one up cased for $7. It was an extra so I sold it. My wife has another blue lady gillette. She loves using it after she got over her initial fears.

That was my wifes concerns as well.

Not quite apropos here, but she gets far more shaves from a blade than I do, and really terrible blades at that. When I realized that she could use the really terrible blades that didn't make it through my blade sampler testing she inherited them. She might change blades twice a year or close to it. It doesn't seem to bother her. I figure she has close to a lifetime supply of blades. After that I'll just sharpen a machete for her to use. I just don't understand how a blade can be used for that long over so much surface area.

I have that same model. I love the thing. It will always be in my rotation.
It was passed down to me after my Father in Law passed at 96. My FIL was a MAN. Period. He lived through the depression, was a medic in WW2, and involved in the liberation and care of the Jewish prisoners in one of the Nazi Concentration Camps. He saw and lived through horrors I would not care to contemplate. He owned two razors; a Boker straight, which he used until his hands got to trembling so much with age that he had to set it down, and that Lady Gillette. I am the proud owner of both.
I don't know where he got it, or if he knew what it was called, but I'm convinced he would not have cared.
Nor do I. It is a fantastic shaver, and I'm grateful that it is mine.
