I have one and it's great.  Smile

Let me introduce myself. My name is Roger Quintero, I go by the name of rogerquin on Thingiverse. I recently decided to upload some of my designs, and the adjustable SE is one of my oldest designs and still one of my favorites.

Hey Roger!

I am definitely impressed by some of your ideas / designs. Some of my wet shaving buddies and I are trying to find someone locally that can print a couple. I have a 3D printed GEM TNNSER and love it but having one of yours with adjustable baseplates would rock! Your lather bowl with brush rest doesn’t look bad either.

Welcome aboard. There just isn't much available in the modern realm for SE and 3D printing is what will help with that. Gem style blades you only have one razor in current production by Blackland Razors and nothing against them but the price point is prohibitive to many and mass acceptance in a market. The PAA Starling might still be in production since it is listed on their website but it is never in stock. 3D printed designs fill that niche right now for people who want a modern razor but don't want to pay a lot for one to try let alone use on a regular basis.

I agree with you regarding limited options. The starling is an interesting razor but not for me. It always felt kind of harsh against my skin... maybe being made of aluminum?? I truly wanted to like it. I definitely want to find a local 3D print shop to give these guys a go.

Not unless you are having an allergic reaction to aluminum. Then it is an issue with either how razor head is designed from geometric standpoint i.e. shave plane and how and where the blade breaks that line or if it is poorly machined i.e. poor or loose blade fitment.

There is also a third option aka user error. Unless the Starling was designed to be like a DE then shaving it at the wrong angle can make an SE razor harsh feeling if the blade can grab face. SE razors that take Gem SE blades were always designed to work at what is called a natural angle. Term comes from the early 1900s and means blade flat to the face like a straight razor. The term best I can tell was a marketing thing to sell those razors against the Gillette razors and blade system.
