Thanks for posting your temptation log HighSpeed  It is interesting how what we (think) we need changes with the perspective of a little time.  There should be a 24 hour time delay on the mouse so that you can’t click unless you’re really sure and have slept on it. I’m guessing there’s be fewer purchases. Of course there will always be the “I know I don’t need it but I want it” purchases.

Another sobering activity is to sift through all the stuff you’ve stashed wherever you stash stuff. Some of it you will bring out because it’s great and you’d forgotten about it , some stuff you’ll accept that you will never use again and get rid of and a lot of stuff you’ll look at and wonder what the heck were you thinking paying whatever price for something you either don’t care for it used once and found that’s it’s “not as good as” whatever stuff you’re currently using. I haven’t done a calculation of spend because it’s pointless.

Lesson is - give it time before you pull the trigger.

HighSpeed and Marko, great thoughts. Mike, I am tempted  Big Grin to do such a log as you describe. Seriously, I am going to start writing it down (in a note or word document) and as Marko says, wait at least 24 hours. I want to be serious about February and making a log would be very helpful and the time will allow cooler heads to prevail. I have 2 purchases that arrived yesterday, one a sought-after, amber-handled Type G injector, the other an impulse purchase of a Canadian injector. For the later, I had the thought Marko described, sort of a "what was I thinking" feeling. I will clean it up, as the head is need of a deep clean, and see how it shaves.

Goals for February: no purchases but keep a list. Thanks, guys!

It looks like I’m going to make it.   Probably a good thing too. I had that unexpected vehicle repair bill just before Christmas. Steering pump went in the Honda van and then the inevitable few other things. Added up to just under $4k. Then this morning while shaving, a very pleasant shave with Ethos success, I noticed the water was getting colder. It was gusting strong winds and I wondered if it was possible that the burner had gone out on the hot water tank -  you know where this is going don’t you - so I finished the shave with a cold water rinse and headed for the basement to check the tank. Well there’s water all over the floor and it’s coming out the top of the tank and pouring onto the floor. Anyway, shut off the water, drained the tank and called the plumber. Also called my wife and asked if she could get off work and come home to help with the cleanup. I’m six weeks post hip replacement surgery and not up to much bending and heavy lifting. Bless her soul. She didn’t hesitate for a moment or complain. Much. In any case, another unscheduled expense has cut into my shaving budget.

Ouch. Sorry to hear that Mark. Hopefully it's the last of the unexpected surprises for a while.

That stinks Mark, hope it all got sorted out and hot water returned without to much pain in the hip or wallet.......

Thanks for the positive thoughts. It’s all sorted, new tank installed yesterday afternoon and most of the soggy cleanup is done. Drying out now. I’m grateful it went when I was home and using hot water because it could have been a lot worse.  I’m grateful for the hardworking tradesmen who answer the call no matter what.  I’m grateful for my hardworking wife - man, she’s amazing.
