Living on the edge
Had an ab fab shave on the mild settings today.

3.5 throughout.

As efficient as the 7 but with almost no blade feel. Very nice.

I imagine this is what people are referring to when they speak about the Diamondback 2020.

Cool. Not sure everyone would call 3.5 the “mild” setting but it’s great that this razor offers a range of gaps that exceeds what anybody would need. Hope this is proving to be a good antidote to your disappointment with the mildness of the Tatara Muramasa, Tester, and you won’t have to test the Turkish postal system.

What would you say is the equivalent setting on Homelike Taiga to 3.5 on Rocnel 2021?

I own both (Ti Taiga), and from my perspective probably 5 or 6, but could be because of the substantial weight difference. A Feather in the Taiga is a breeze - in the Rocnel, I definitely pay attention.

Does that mean that Rocnel generally has more blade feel than HLS Taiga as well?

Well, the Rocnel (140+g) weighs about 2.5x the Taiga (56+g), so mass is definitely a factor shaving, but I'd say depending on the setting both can have minimal blade feel.  The angle and positioning of the blade in either razor head is perfect - for me.  There is considerably more inertia behind an almost 150g razor compared to one less than half as heavy, so technique and blade choice make a difference as well.  I actually like both razors, but both are very different in use.  The Rochel can be opened up more I think, but I'll never go through a complete rotation on either razor, although both will accommodate higher blade gaps with multiple rotations of the adjustment dial.  Either razor provides a great shaving experience, and either will truly accommodate almost anyone's preference for aggressiveness - and either can be dialed down to as mild as almost anyone would want.  I think the primary difference is whether you prefer a beefy razor (the Rocnel) with plenty of heft (discounting anything about head or blade gap), or whether you prefer a light razor (in the case of the Ti Taiga) with an almost delicate feel.  You can't go wrong IMO with either.

The regular Sailor 2021 is $490 versus $690 for the Master Collection, so it is worth considering that. $490 seems like excellent value relative to a high-polish Wolfman or H&S razor, whereas $690 is a lot more. I appreciate that the longer and slimmer handle on the MC makes a difference and those who have both say it is a significant improvement. The gold plating on the ring is only cosmetic, and the “made wholly by Murat’s hand” and numbered production may or may not add value for you. You may want to ask Murat whether he has also changed the handle on regular 2021s that he is making now, or if perhaps he would do it for you.

I’m not saying the MC is not worth $690 - it absolutely is - but the regular model is a very good option too.

MC also includes the stand if that's an interest, and I'm not sure Murat sells those separately.  And I've paid upwards of a C note for similar weight and quality stands, so combined with the gold ring option that's in line with the value proposition of the regular Sailor but it's nice to have the option of just the razor.

I had the 2021 and it was a great razor and had more than a few shaves and did some side by side comparisons with other highly efficient/effective razors I sold it to get the MC. I agree with both. The regular 2021 is a good value but I also like the stand, gold ring and handle so worth the extra for me.
If a Ti or mixed SS/Ti version came out at some point I’d have to get it because not only do I like my Ti razors I have but I’m the curious type as well.

Thank you.
I have the HLS Taiga, and love it. It’s the SS one though, not Ti, which I believe weighs around 105-106 grams, so still a bit lighter than Rocnel.

I use setting 3 in a Taiga for mild shaves as well.
I find it hard to compare the Taiga to the Rocnel as they are fundamentally different in their
design approach, geometry and angle. .
For me the former is more traditional while the latter is a far more unconventional interpretation
of a shaving implement.
