2021/22 Rocnel Sailor Adjustable

Ok I don’t about anyone else but my too cap is not wiggling and I want to be clear on that and I have shaken it like I was playing Maracas.
I hear a sound inside the razor like something is wiggling or maybe a better word is touching something else as it’s shaken. My guess is the two springs. I feel no movement in the top cap all the way up the settings. I’m wondering if we are all on the same page here with this or are some top caps actually wiggling? The blade is secure and although I don’t have any instruments to measure gaps visually I see straight blade alignment all the way through the settings. An again it makes no noise when shaving.

Looking over mine it very well might be springs or possibly other inside parts.

   With this mornings shave I didn't notice a sound, maybe I didn't shook the water off as vigorously.
   Whatever the case is I'm going to say it's not really a problem,, as it shaves wonderful. 
  I would buy the razor again and I'm in no way putting down the razor, it's very nice. 
   My observation of this wiggle sound and bringing it to the attention of others was not in any way meant to downplay the razors quality in any way. 

I've had and used other adjustables and they were always dead silent. I figured I could find out what's happening with this within the community of owners. 
  My findings of my investigation of sorts about this. I have determined that this is probably just the way the razor is engineered. I have determined for myself this is no big issue, not a loose blade, nor is the razor falling apart, it just is. It's copacetic with me.
   I suppose these razors can be taken apart someday for cleaning, probably see exactly how it's made then.

I don’t think anyone was thinking that my friend and I thought it was a good thing you brought it to our attention as we’ve all seen issues happen with newly released razors in the past. So the old saying better safe than sorry.

Agreed buddy, I'm really glad I was able to know about these razors and now use one.

First shave in the books. I decided to try it at the lowest setting, the •. I did my usual three passes. Wonderful super smooth shave! I do have a bit of sandpaper under my chin which I attribute to user error. I lost the angle. I'll dial it up to I tomorrow and keep working my way up as I get to know the razor.

I love the lowest setting, especially with buffing. I can buff all day and feel completely safe without having to worry about taking off my skin.
In fact, for me it is actually more mild and safer at that setting than my post war Gillette Tech. I know for the guys that prefer milder razors may sound impossible, especially coming from my particular razor of last year's model that comes in at 182 grams, with a blade gap at minimum of approx. 0.90 in comparison to my vintage Gillette at 50 grams and 0.56 gap. This speaks volumes of the design and functionality of the Rocnel Sailor.

I just took it as a curious mind, Keith. No harm.

I just used my 21. Without a cap, it rattles like a snake. And I don't think it is springs. Those springs usually ride in very shallow seats, top and bottom. The head assembly, I think, is supposed to keep some compression at all times...holding the bottom plate to the middle plate via the springs into a subassembly. You can test the springs by playing with the compression without a cap. Pinch the ends of the razor, try not to let the plate move, and list for springs.

Without the cap, the noise in mine seems to come from the adjustment dial play. That dial is connected to an inner steel tube that has a female thread on the end, to accept the top cap threaded post.

With a blade in mine, and the top cap threads just grabbing, it rattles more. I think because of the play in the threads allowing the 2 top cap aligning posts to move around inside floating plate.

Once I load the cap and tighten it, there is no rattle, but there is a little play at the adjustment knob. Mine stays rock solid all the way back around to the dot. Past that a bit and the rattle is a tick...but only of I shake vigorously, which I never do. I just move the head around under running water enough to clear the channels. Any water left on the head, stays on the head. I actually like it and feel it helps the head glide better, especially after tge 1st pass when my lather is a thinner layer. That head water is the best. Especially since I use cold water to rinse.

Anyway, like you said, one day someone will get brave and disassembly one. I base all of my assumptions on the 2017 which is completely user serviceable.

I will find a picture of the 17 broken down so you can see how it works.

1st 2 passes at 3.5. Final 1/2 pass at 2.5. Perfect shave. No complaints at all.

This is how the 2017 breaks down. The tiny piece at the end of the handle goes in first and secures the fixed baseplate to the floating plate via threads. Not much play in that connection either. The threaded handle then goes in and connects to the threaded cap post.

I am curious about this nice setup.
    Some good thoughts on this you're telling me.
 I picture,in my mind, the springs riding between 2 seats of some sort, to keep them from wondering out of place. 
   The pictures of a 2017 would be great to see, might be a good insight.
    I can see why shavers rate these Rocnel Adjustables so high. These things seem to just gets it done and in short work.
