2018 DFS LE - Brad Sears ShaveWorks custom brush

Had my 1st shave with my new fan today and it was a very pleasant shave! I am not experienced with many brushes (yet) as I've only been wet shaving since the beginning of the year. I started with a couple $50-75 brushes (24mm) then I recently purchased a Thater 4125 in 26mm 2-band fan. I like the ability to whip up lather quickly with the Thater but I have noticed on my 3rd pass I feel a little irritation/scratchiness on my neck. I assume the tips will probably soften up a little bit as I use it more.

The BSSW is nice and soft right from the start and I felt no irritation on my 3rd pass today from the brush. I only use creams at this point so whipping up a lather was easy as expected. In a few months I will probably order something custom when I have a better idea of what I want in a custom brush.

One question for the forum... What are some brush stand options for 26-28mm knot brushes? I have a couple of the inexpensive metal brush stands but they don't really fit the 26mm knots very well.

Brush stands for larger knots can be a challenge, especially if the handle doesn't lend itself to hanging from a narrowing in the profile - i.e., there is no narrowing!! I've got a few of these stands and they're great value:

And I've used this style for some Thaters but I've had to enlarge the throat with a dremel tool to fit the larger knots.

I’d take a look at Fendrihan they just recently came out with an adjustable stainless stand that’s supposed to adjust to everything

A couple of months ago, I bought the Thater SS Brush Stand. After using several 'cheap' plastic stands for many years, now I just use the Thater Stand for a few hours (Or when the brush is mostly dry), after my shave, then place the brush on 'It's own Natural Stand, it's BASE'.
I found the best price ($42/Shipped) on Fendrihan. It came quickly and very well packed.
EVERY ONE of my brushes fit on this simple, functional, and well constructed stand.

Thank you, Gentlemen.  While Nancy & I are obviously delighted to hear these comments, we think the stand information is great!  I checked Fendrihan and found the adjustable stand here.

I obviously haven't used this stand; so I don't want to come off as being harsh.  My only hesitation/comment is that most of the metal stands I've examined have rough edges that will scratch brush handles.  It's an easy fix.  But I would be prepared to polish any rough edges with very fine Emory cloth (or similar abrasive) if the tongs  holding the brush aren't silky smooth to the touch.  

That caveat aside, this appears to be an intelligent answer to a continuing problem.

BTW, the L.E. brush is a 28mm

I don’t know if it shows up but isn’t really sharp but if you were motivated it would polish nicely and it’s stainless so no worries about going through plating

It ended up the tips were softer than I thought they were. Oh well. Still love the handle, and I do like the knot. Some of the best flow I've experienced in a brush. Never been a heavy gel tip fan, but the tips on these are interesting.

If you'll excuse a brief diversion from the main topic of the thread, I found a low-tech brush stand that works well with all kinds of brushes.

I know this holder may offend both those who advocate that the brush should be dried with bristles down as well as those in the bristles up camp, but it works very well for me.

I got it from Saponificio Varesio, and it's basically a piece of wood with a lip on it to catch the brush.

It works well with all size brushes, as you can see, and I never have to worry about scratching a brush.

Now isn't that clever!
