“Modern” Injector and Gem Razors

What's interesting to me is that there are several modern "injector" (some might disagree with the injector definition if you don't actually inject the blade to load the razor) models, but they don't seem to offer other razor formats, although maybe I have overlooked it. And conversely, leading razors makers that offer DE, GEM, and AC format models, don't have an injector format offering. Not sure if that is out of concern for cannibalizing existing market share or just coincidence.

I see what you mean with regards to semantics (syntax?).  The more appropriate term is probably “Injector Blade” razors.  

I could see either of your hypotheses being true; another one I’ll posit is difficulty in design.  And even then I don’t know how true that is.  Maybe if you can design one you can design the others.  I know that’s a gross oversimplification but maybe not and thus alludes back to the fact that they aren’t “injectable” but rather “loadable”.

I’ll give PAA and Shield a look. Two brands I’m not very familiar with.

Obviously we have a plethora of options when it comes to modern, CNC double edge razors.  I feel like there aren’t nearly as many options when it comes to newly produced injector or Gem style razors.

I think I can name two injectors: Asylum and the Supply

And for Gem: the Blackland Sabre and another with a name I can’t remember (Atelier or Blut?  Something like that).  Oh and the wolfman too, but I’ve never really considered that because I think (correct me if I’m wrong) you have to wait forever on a waitlist and then drop $400 to get it, which I just simply won’t do.

I like these styles of razors.  I recently got the Asylum injector and am pleased with it.  I’ve been eyeing the Sabre but it’s always out of stock.

I want to add some modern razors in these styles to complement the 20 or so vintage Schick/Gem razors I already own.

My question is are there others out there that I am missing and worth looking into?

On the GEM front, you basically touched on three wonderful artisans and brands: Blackland, Atelier DURDAN, and Wolfman. Atelier DURDAN and Wolfman are at the premium end of the the pricing spectrum. I'm not sure where wait times are at for Wolfman, but I know Atelier DURDAN has brought in additional equipment and are progressively reducing waiting times for their orders. Shane shared timelines for the V1 and V2 of the Sabre. Fedsbackhand created a very informative comparison of his experience with all three brands and their respective GEM offerings. Personally, I am loving the Atelier DURDAN ++ Vestige (GEM format) right now, and it is quickly becoming one of my top razors. I am also looking forward to what Shane has in the works for the Sabre V2. And for a vintage benchmark, the gen 2 MMOC is my favorite GEM vintage razor (although I have only tried three variations). I have most of the vintage Schick offerings and very much enjoy the Type O with a twin II injector blade.

Two rabbit holes I must go down!  I will eagerly look for the thread comparing all three, and you reminded me there were different iterations of the MMOC.

For comparison, how do you rate the MMOC to the ++?

The Vestige is excellent from Atelier Durdan - their Black Friday sale starts next week. Would definitely recommend the Vestige with + or ++ plates. Three months isn't forever for the Wolfman but yes you are looking at a starting price of about $360 new. It's worth it for me. I could just use the Wolfman. I'm now near exclusively using GEM blades. Hoping that the Sabre v2 happens Shane!

PAA Starling was a disaster. Skip the SS version unless they make major changes to the design. Was released too early IMO. Not tried the alu version. Don't really care for super light razors. Haven't tried the Shield for similar reasons.

Hope that Tatara will produce a GEM... but AC is much more likely. They haven't confirmed a format so far.

Maybe Blackland will re-introduce (and improve) the ATT G1 and Rocnel continues to make the SE-G in small batches on demand.

Well hello!  I didn’t realize you were already in this thread.  Maybe I don’t need to seek out your thread if I can infer your conclusions by these suggestions.   Sounds like I’m not hearing much love for the standard plate; + or ++ seems like is the way to go.  

I agree I hope more makers produce one.  Is RazoRock too busy with all their other current offerings?  They seem like a prime candidate to offer one in the future as well… and then ten different variations of it!

You forgot the Parker injector!  The  V3 was recently released.    It's on the low end pricewise and borrows heavily from the Schick and Pal adjustables from the past.

Aha!  An actually injectable injector!  The first thought that came to my mind was the old Pal adjustable, which I’ve never actually tried.  And it’s a version 3!?!?  I hope one can infer that all the kinks have been ironed out by now.  With its cheaper price and wider availability this might be one worth looking into.

Standard plate is pretty mild but bear in mind I only used the Vestige for a pass around so kept switching plates. I'll order one soon. None of the plates are aggressive.

Most of my impressions are in the WR3 and Vestige threads. I have used alot of WR3 plates both SB and OC from .35 to .74 gaps in both SS and bronze including some prototypes. Shaved with the .35 OC bronze today which is surprisingly efficient for me.

Now I need to go find an Atelier Durdan thread and start asking some brand specific questions there.  Thanks guys it looks like we’ve covered all currently available options while (if I can speak for everyone) we yearn for newer models.

Actually the only thimg wrong with the first version, which I own, was that it was too mild.  I find it shaves well cramked open and use it to shave my head these days.    The styling is based on the Pal, but the mechanism is from the Schick.  The newer versions added a bit to the top end, I believe.
