General thoughts
I own and primarily use a Wolfman SB and a Blackbird. High quality stainless DE's with 'hype' to match! The Variant doesn't need the hype. It shaves closer and much smoother than the above mentioned rock stars. I actually prefer it. One of the finest DE's on the market. Parker nailed it.
User Friendliness
Very user friendly if one is familiar with the Merkur Progress or Mergress/Digress
Grip
The Variant addresses the slippery handle that the Mergress/Digress can't. Great grip!
Blade Replacement
Easy as Sunday morning. The Variant tightens down right to the 1 every time with a blade installed.
Balance
This is where it shines. 110 grams (4oz) to the Progress 90 g (3.2 oz). 4 inch total. Balance distributed beautifully.
Value
I'd easily pay double.
Quality
very sound. Brass handle, satin finished head.
Packaging
Nice presentation box with instructions.

I have been on the fence about this razor but at the price it is certainly worth taking a chance.

Yes I'm loving it. Sure, not built like a Wolfman or Blackbird, but the shaves are just as good for me...and smoother. One does like to enjoy the Progress type shave in order to like the Variant. That's the one caveat I'd be careful about. YMMV and all that.
