General thoughts
This soap never ceases to please me. I got it to have some PIF soap to give away to new wet shavers and for that purpose it is fantastic. Easy to mould into any container, easy to lather to excellent shaving consistency,. low scent to appeal to many a nose. Best of all is it's almost free! (And as anyone knows, anything free is worth saving up for.). That said, I keep a pot on my counter and reach for it often. It has a wide water range and builds a super stable lather. Slickness appeals to me. It's easy to rinse off and although it does leave the cloudy film associated with Italian softies, this one seems not so pronounced as Proraso. Scent level is low so you can use it to make your own essential oil creations or roll with it as is. I enjoy the scent. My wife made a spearmint soap and loves it. This soap gets as much time on the roster as any soap in my stash. It also is my go to soap when a new brush needs defunked and broken in.
Lather
Lathers very easy and creates a dense and creamy lather. Plenty slick, in fact one of the slicker soaps out there. Protective? Yes. Plenty slick for straights. Very good residual slickness. Easy you rinse off. This soap creates beautiful lather when I attack it with a dripping wet brush.
Skin Feel
This soap feels silky to my skin. I feel no tingle, itch, or burn.
Slickness
Very nice. Wide range when adding water so no blade chatter. Residual slickness builds pass to pass. Certainly slicker than most
Scent
Hey, this is an old school Italian softy. Smells of that cherry/almond. Like Cella but weaker. I actually am enjoying more and more the subdued scent of this and other less powerful soaps. That said most shavers seem to like a more powerful scent and this is not that. The scent is nothing special nor interesting but neither is it off putting. 3 of 10 on strength.
Skin Care
Make sure to add enough water and you won't need any post shave balm. Use it too pasty and it'll dry you. I really enjoy the post shave here.
Value
This soap is sold in a 2.2 lb brick. 35 oz for $25? That's less than six bits per oz. for a very functional soap. You can PIF half of it and still have enough soap to shave with for a couple of years!
Quality
Hey, this soap doesn't have to bow it's head to any soap out there. Is it as creamy as AOS tallow? No, but it's close. Is it as slick as Stirling? Nope, but almost. Does it offer as good a post shave as Mystic Waters? No, but I need no balm after shaving.
Packaging
This is a big ol brick of soap. It's wrapped in cellophane and slipped into a paperboard box. The box has a spartan label. No presentation packaging here but if they packaged this in a screw top tub big enough to hold over two pounds of soap your family would be asking why you have a crock pot on your bathroom counter.
