General thoughts
I really wanted to love this soap. I've tried a couple of other Dr. Jon's recently (Conquest and Defiance) and I have a tub of Anne Bonny (bay rum) awaiting use and the performance is excellent. The scent of Anne Bonny is strong and what I expected. Dr. Jon's has improved the soap base from what it was when I first tried it a couple of years ago and I think the current base is very good indeed, however, the absence of any rose scent in the Cedar & Rose is for me a fatal flaw that will preclude my using the soap in the future. That plain, mild cedar scent just isn't good enough to squeeze out a Grooming Dept Magnolia or a Wholly Kaw Fougere Bouquet or any B&M and .....I could go on but I think you get my point. The Anne Bonny will for sure find a spot in the rotation as will Defiance (I gave Conquest to my son) but this Cedar & Rose is headed for the box of unloved products. It would be a different story if the Rose Absolute had come through to the final product - I love rose. That being said, I still recommend the Dr. Jon's soap base if you can find it in a scent you like - the Cedar & Rose is in the Essentials line and the only difference I could see between the ingredients in the Essentials line and the rest of the Dr. Jon's soaps is that the Essentials line contains only essential oils and no fragrance oils the rest might have fragrance oils as well as essential oils.

Excellent, rich and thick lather forms easily on the brush. This soap base has been upgraded and is really quite good now.

Skin Feel
The skin feel both during and after the shave is top notch, very nourishing and moisturizing, no drying at all.

The slick is right up there with many of the top performing soaps.

This is the one category that this soap falls down on in my opinion. Cedar & Rose sounds pretty straightforward. I expect cedar and I expect rose to feature prominently in this soap but I only got cedar. No rose on the puck nor in the lather. This soap is in Dr. Jon's Essentials line and only contains essential oils for scent - clearly needed more rose absolute.

Skin Care
Great skin feel, excellent protection during the shave

CDN$23.99 ( )is about the average going rate for a 4 oz puck of soap.

Very good

Dr. Jon's has stuck with the tin can but it seems like a decent quality tin and the label is well done and seems waterproof as well so it should stand up reasonably well.

Thanks for the informative review, Marko. This was the first I’d seen for this line. Sorry to read about the scent. The base seems to be great. (I like the original base a lot, haven’t tried the new one yet.)
